As many of my readers will know, I am not the hugest fan of matte lip products. My ideal type of lippie is a MAC lipstick in the lustre finish (as evidenced by my ample lustre collection), which is more balmy, shiny and sheer. I received this Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Long Wear Lipstick from a thoughtful friend who shares my love of makeup. I was apprehensive. I had tried on the Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick (the one in the squeeze tube) at Sephora. After wearing it as I shopped along my merry way for 10 or 15 minutes, my lips felt like they’d had all of the moisture sucked right out of them! I removed it before I even made it to the checkout line and applied copious amounts of my fav Blistex Daily Conditioning Treatment. Would the newer Melted Matte be better or even worse? When I was visiting my sister in Halifax recently, she had gotten a new lipstick, the Too Faced La Creme Color Drenched Lipstick in the shade Sweet Maple, a very 1990s-brown shade, and she loved it. I had never tried any of the Too Faced lippies before, and it looked so pretty! I wanted one of my own. I swatched some of the shades in Sephora, and picked the shade Pink Chocolate, a “berry brown.” I was a little disappointed that they didn’t carry the full shade selection in-store, at least at the location I went to. They only had 12 of the 24 shades available on the Sephora website. Continue reading
Last night my fiance and I finally went to see the new Star Wars. Have you seen it yet? I couldn’t resist geeking out with a bit of a Princess Leia look. It was really easy to do full-on Princess Leia buns with the help of my Irresistible Me Hair Extensions. I looked at some images online of Carrie Fisher’s makeup from the original 1977 film. I did a matte brown eyeshadow look with lots of dark brown liner, paired with an orangey-brown glossy lip (a 1970s idea of a “natural” makeup look?). Continue reading
The Too Faced Love Flush Long-Lasting 16-Hour Blush has been on my wishlist ever since I first laid eyes on the mind-blowingly cute packaging. Not having a Sephora anywhere near me, was the only thing that stopped me from immediately going there and buying the entire collection! When I placed a Sephora order last month I added Baby Love to my cart. When the blush first arrived, I could not even. I mean, observe the cuteness! Continue reading
I just wanted to let you guys know about a few giveaways I found out about today. The first are from Sephora. In an attempt to address concerns about the recent changes in Canadian shipping, Sephora is running Canada’s Daily Gift of Beauty. You can enter the Canada-only giveaway (sorry to my non-Canadian readers) that runs until Friday, October 2, for a chance to win a daily beauty prize. Visit the SephoraCanada Facebook page to see what the prize of the day is, or @sephoracanada on Instagram for a hint about the next day’s prize, and enter to win each day. Continue reading
When it comes to favourites, a good indicator that you really love a beauty product is when you use it up entirely and then buy it again (and again!). I had an idea to do a post about the products I have repurchased the most. When I thought about it, I came up with a list of my 12 most repurchased products of all time, which I could also have called the makeup products I am most obsessed with. So, in no particular order, here they are:
Bare Minerals Original Foundation SPF 15 ($35.00 CAD): I’ve been using this powder foundation for over 10 years. Its a great match for fair skin, and when my skin was really break-out prone this was the only foundation that wouldn’t exacerbate the issue. It never irritated my sensitive skin.
Too Faced Shadow Insurance eyeshadow primer ($24.00 CAD): I prefer the Too Faced over the Urban Decay Primer Potion. I find it creamier and smoother and it lasts longer on me. When I discovered eyeshadow primer it literally changed my (makeup) life!
Benefit Benetint Cheek Stain ($36.00 CAD): This is another product that I’ve been using for at least 10 years, maybe more. I use it everyday under my foundation. It gives fair skin a beautiful, glowing from within flush. I couldn’t even guess how many of these little bottles I’ve gone through!
Three of my most repurchased products are MAC eyeshadows in Patina, Omega and Brule ($12-19.00 CAD). I have hit pan on all three multiple times.
Laura Mercier Secret Concealer ($31.00 CAD): This is my absolute favourite under eye concealer. I used to buy “1 – for light complexions with pink undertones” and then Sephora started carrying “0.5 – light beige for fair to light complexions” which I like even better.
Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Powder ($22.00 CAD for 0.14oz size): I use this to set my under eye concealer. I always buy the mini size because you only need to use a tiny amount. The mini size lasts forever and I’ve still gone through three or four of these.
NYX powder blush in “Angel” ($6.00 CAD): This is my favourite blush ever! It lasts longer on me than any other powder blush (Nars, MAC, Tarte…) and is the prettiest shade on fair skin. The blushes are small though, so I go through them quickly. I’ve gone through a lot of these.
MAC Eye Kohl in “Powersurge” ($19.00 CAD): This flattering, wearable “bronzed-brown with golden shimmer” is the perfect eyeliner. I first heard about it from Pixiwoo. I use it on my lower waterline and smudge it out on my lower lash line. I literally have like 3 back-ups of this and I’m also constantly buying it for other people so they can discover the eyeliner goodness that is Powersurge!
Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara ($12.00 CAD): I have been loving this little mascara since it debuted. I’d never worn mascara on my lower lashes because I could never find anything that would stay on there. This doesn’t smudge or flake and stays put until I wash it off. And the little brush is so cute!
Blistex Daily Conditioning Treatment SPF 20 in the peach pot ($3.99 CAD): I’ve been using this lipbalm since I was in highschool, but I won’t say how long ago that was, lol. I suspect that if I could stack up all of the empty pots of this lipbalm that I’ve gone through, the tower might reach the moon.
I’d like to tag anyone reading this to do this post too! I’d love to hear about your most repurchased products.
Thanks for stopping by! ❤
Nerdy Librarian Girl
For my Día de Muertos or “Day of the Dead” party, I did a sugar-skull inspired make-up look. Here’s a quick look at the products I used:
- Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer
- MAC blackground paint pot
- MAC smolder eye kohl
- MAC greensmoke eyeshadow (not pictured)
- NYX black eyeshadow single
- Milani Color Statement lip liner in true red
- NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in milk
- Ardell false lashes
- any small, pointed brush
I actually didn’t use anything to make my skin paler – I just skipped any bronzer or blush and this is how pale I look (lol). I used eyeshadow primer all around and under my eyes where I painted the black circles. For all of the black areas, I used MAC blackground paint pot and MAC smolder eye kohl, and I set it with NYX black eyeshadow (any matte black shadow would do).
I used MAC greensmoke eyeshadow on my lid to give my eyes a bit more dimension. For the red scallop pattern and dots I used the red lip liner outlined with the black eye kohl.
On my lips I used the milk Jumbo Eye Pencil and the MAC smolder eye kohl. I was surprised how well this stayed in place all night.
I made the flower headpiece myself using a headband, some Dollar Store fake flowers and a hot glue gun. It was super simple.
