Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara

Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara
Hi everyone! It has been ages since I last posted. Working at a university, the fall is a super busy time. I have had so many projects on the go this fall that I have had hardly any spare time. Plus, another exciting thing happened – we bought a house! Very unexpectedly. We had almost bought a house two years ago but some stuff happened and we ended up not proceeding with the sale. So things have been crazy! I hadn’t even realized how long it had been since I was last blogging.

I’m back with a review of the Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara. I recently finished my Smashbox X-Rated Mascara which I totally loved. The wand and the formula of the X-Rated mascara is one of my favourites. When I started testing out the Full Exposure mascara, I immediately thought – oh no a huge brush! This is one mascara trend that I’m not a big fan of. Continue reading

Smashbox Indecent Exposure VS X-Rated Mascara

Smashbox Indecent Exposure Mascara

Love the velvet mascara wand handle

Hi everyone! A few weeks ago, I reviewed the Smashbox X-Rated Mascara, which is my new favourite mascara. I loved the wand and the formula, which really volumized my lashes and is very black and dramatic.  I was excited to try another new mascara from Smashbox, the Indecent Exposure Mascara, but also a little nervous because I just love the X-Rated so much. Here’s what I thought of the Indecent Exposure and how it compared to the X-Rated. Continue reading

Smashbox Always On Matte Liquid Lipstick Review & Giveaway! CLOSED

The new Smashbox Always On Matte Liquid Lipsticks

The new Smashbox Always On Matte Liquid Lipsticks

Hi everyone! Today I have a pretty extensive review of the new Smashbox Always On Matte Liquid Lipsticks in nine of the shades (this is a long one, so get comfy and fix yourself a drink or a snack!) plus a pretty exciting giveaway! Keep reading to find out how you can win Bawse, a collab with hilarious YouTuber Lilly Singh (iisuperwomanii). I am giving one away to a subscriber and its open internationally.

When I received this package from Smashbox, I have to admit that initially I was a bit scared, because, as anyone familiar with my blog knows, I’m not normally the biggest fan of matte lippies. I tend to find them too drying for me. But Smashbox was so generous and the colours were so cool, that I decided to just dive in and wear a different shade every day and then review them for you and let you know what I think. I ‘m also trying to include more pics of me wearing the products I’m reviewing so you will be treated to an abundance of selfies in this post (Selfies are not easy. I have a whole newfound respect for the Kardashians! lol). Smashbox sent me 10 shades, but I didn’t open or swatch Bawse as I really wanted to be able to share with my subscribers and let someone else try out this new product too. Continue reading

My new Favourite Mascara!

Smashbox Mascaras
Hi everyone! I recently received several Mascaras from Smashbox, and I’m so excited to try them all out and review them for you. I think mascaras are one of my favorite products to try out, how about you? I love the sample sized mascaras from Sephora. I have one particular absolute favourite mascara that I just keep repurchasing and repurchasing, Guerlain Maxi Lash, which made my 2014 and 2015 favourites, but I’m always game for putting a new mascara up against it to see if it competes! I’m going to test out and review each of these separately. I find you need to use a mascara for at least a week before you can really get a good feel for it.

Before I start, I think its important for you to know what I really like in a mascara. That way, you’ll know that if you like similar qualities and I really like a mascara, chances are you’ll like it too. On the flip side, if what I tend to prefer in a mascara is not your cup of tea, then my review can still be helpful because you’ll be able to judge whether or not its what you’re looking for (if I hate it, you might love it). Let’s get started… Continue reading

Smashbox Be Legendary Cream Lipstick

Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Fig

Another Sephora spring sale purchase: a Smashbox Be Legendary Cream Lipstick!

Its taken me so long to get around to blogging about all of the different things I got in the Sephora spring sale, but I really wanted to thoroughly test out the Smashbox Be Legendary Cream Lipstick before I reviewed it. I’m very particular about lipsticks and after my High-end Lipstick Review Series, I like to give a new lipstick a real good try before I write about it. Smashbox recently revamped their Be Legendary lipsticks and added some new shades (in total there are 18 shades in the cream finish, and 18 in the matte finish). I’d quite liked the Smashbox Be Legendary Long Wear Lip Lacquer that I’d tried, so I was really curious to try the newly re-formulated cream lipstick out. Continue reading

More of my Sephora VIB Sale Purchases

Sephora VIB sale haul: eyeshadows
At the Sephora spring sale, I picked up some Bite Beauty lip products (you can see my post about those here) and I also wanted to test out a NARS Single Eye Shadow ($31 CAD), which I had never tried before. While cruising the site, I also noticed the mini Smashbox Photo Matte Eyes Travel Palette. I had recently tried out the Smashbox Full Exposure palette and particularly loved the matte eye shadow shades in it. I actually wrote in my review, “I would definitely like to try more of the Smashbox matte shadows, but their palettes and trios all seem to have a similar mix of shimmers and mattes. Fingers crossed they come out with an all matte palette!” It seems my makeup prayers were answered! So understandably, I was excited to try out the all-matte Smashbox palette. Continue reading

New Smashbox Color Correcting Sticks

Smashbox Color Correcting Sticks
Hey everyone! I hope everyone is enjoying spring. Where I live in Canada its still pretty cold and actually SNOWED here twice this week 😦 The fiance, a Folklore Professor, says the folktale about May snow is that if you apply  it to your face it “cures” freckles. I haven’t tried it. I think freckles are super cute anyhow!

As someone who is very pale, I am just starting to dip my toes (or beauty blender sponge!) into the land of contouring, highlighting, and colour correcting. This isn’t always easy, as many of these products don’t seem to be geared towards fair skin gals. I was really excited to try out the new Smashbox Color Correcting Sticks, which claimed to enable me to “seamlessly achieve complexion perfection.” Who doesn’t want that? 🙂 Continue reading

Smashbox Full Exposure Travel Palette: 8 Mini Shadows To Go

Smashbox Full Exposure Travel Palette

A travel-size palette of eight, universal neutral shadows

Is it just me or do all of the adorable mini versions of products that Sephora strategically lines the checkout with get you every time? Waiting in the line-up, I couldn’t resist this totally cute miniature version of the Smashbox Full Exposure Palette. The full-sized palette has 14 neutral shades (each one is 0.035 oz) for $62.00 CAD. The Smashbox Full Exposure Travel Palette has 8 of the original shadows in smaller, 0.026 oz, for only $28.00 CAD.

I was really drawn to how sleek and compact this palette is. I’m always on the lookout for portable eyeshadow palettes that I can tuck into a carry-on and not have to worry too much about them shattering; I’m not going to pack my MAC Pro Palette x 15 when flying Air Canada! This travel palette is really thin and is smaller than my iPhone. Continue reading

5 Mini Lippies: Did Samples Convince Me to Buy it or Skip it?

Bobbi Brown High Shimmer Lip Gloss, Benefit Coralista Ultra Plush Lip Gloss, Make Up For Ever Artist Plexi-Gloss, Sephora Rouge Infusion Lip Stain, Smashbox Be Legendary Long-Wear Lip Lacquer

Miniature Lippies are the cutest!

I love anything miniature. I couldn’t resist a post about these cute little mini lippie samples that have piled up. The best thing about getting samples of a product is you can decide for free whether its something you’d like to buy or something you’d rather skip. Here’s what I decided about these five samples.

Bobbi Brown High Shimmer Lip Gloss in Bare Sparkle

Baby Bobbi Brown High Shimmer Lip Gloss in Bare Sparkle

Bobbi Brown High Shimmer Lip Gloss in Bare Sparkle ($30.00 CAD): The first thing I didn’t like about this lip gloss was the very strong minty scent and taste. I know some people like that, but I’m not a fan. Its also super sticky! Again, some folks don’t mind a sticky lip gloss but this is another thing I’m not a fan of. It did look really pretty applied and reminded me of my favourite Rimmel Stay Glossy in Non-Stop Glamour. If you don’t mind the stickiness and the mint flavour, its a shimmery nude that you could pop over any lip liner or lipstick. But be warned – this lip gloss is nearly impossible to remove and leaves a lot of glitter behind. Plus you could pick up the Rimmel for much less. Verdict: Skip it.

Benefit Coralista Ultra Plush Lip Gloss

Baby Benefit Coralista Ultra Plush Lip Gloss

Benefit Coralista Ultra Plush Lip Gloss ($21.00 CAD): I liked the concept of the Ultra Plush glosses matching the Benefit best-selling boxed powders. I feel like the packaging was a bit disappointing though. The plastic squeeze-tube feels more drugstore than a $20+ lip product should. I don’t like applying coloured glosses out of these because I find it trickier to get a precise and even application. I also found this gloss very sheer. Maybe its the shade, but it didn’t show up on me very well. Finally, the scent of this was odd too. Instead of having a matching scent as the Coralista blush, this just had that slightly chemical, medicated lip balm smell. Verdict: Skip it.

Make Up For Ever Artist Plexi-Gloss in 202 Sweet Pink

Baby Make Up For Ever Artist Plexi-Gloss #202 Sweet Pink

Make Up For Ever Artist Plexi-Gloss #202 Sweet Pink ($23.00 CAD): This gloss is seriously shiny! I liked that it doesn’t have any scent and is really long-wearing. Even the sample packaging feels high-end and is real glass vs plastic. The only downside is that its a little on the sticky side. But if you like a shiny lip gloss look, the Make Up For Ever has 35 shades, super cute packaging and is more reasonably priced than the Bobbi Brown. Verdict: Buy it.

Sephora Rouge Infusion Lip Stain #10 Red Essence

Baby Sephora Rouge Infusion Lip Stain #10 Red Essence

Sephora Rouge Infusion Lip Stain #10 Red Essence ($18.00 CAD): This may literally be the worst lip product I’ve ever tried! First there’s the awful chemically-raspberry smell. Then, this stain was impossible to apply! It was so uneven, patchy and awful. It also felt really dry and uncomfortable. Just the worst. Verdict: Skip it.

Smashbox Be Legendary Long-Wear Lip Lacquer in Coral

Baby Smashbox Be Legendary Long-Wear Lip Lacquer in Coral

Smashbox Be Legendary Long-Wear Lip Lacquer in Coral
($28.00 CAD): This is a really neat product described as a “long-wear, lip-hybrid formula with high-impact staining pigments for color that goes on as a lacquer and then adjusts to a stain for eight hours of color.” Its more a liquid lipstick than a gloss. Its really easy to apply and goes on smoothly and evenly. Its long-wearing, wears off really pretty and leaves behind a serious stain. The lip lacquer has a slight scent of coconut and no taste. The shade, Coral, is not a great shade for me, but I would love to try some of the others, like Keepsake, a cool mauve pink or Off Duty, a nude pink brown. Verdict: Buy it.

Here are swatches of all five:
