Rimmel London Provocalips 16HR Kissproof Lip Colour

Rimmel London Provocalips 16HR Kissproof Lip Colour

Rimmel London Provocalips 16HR Kissproof Lip Colour

I was so excited to try the Rimmel London Provocalips 16HR Kissproof Lip Colour, because I loved the Rimmel Apocalips and the Stay Glossy lipgloss. I am generally a fan of the Rimmel lip products. I was also totally in love with the beautiful deep plum shade, Kiss Fatal.

The Provocalips is one of those two-step, long-wearing lip products. The Rimmel site explains:
STEP 1: Apply colour and keep lips apart for 60 seconds until the product sets.
STEP 2: Apply topcoat to lock the colour, moisture and add shine.”

Unfortunately, the Provocalips did not work out for me at all. I found the step 1 colour difficult to apply evenly. Although I let it set for a minute the first time, and then even longer the next few times I tried it (several minutes), when I applied the step 2 topcoat it would wipe away some of the colour.

The topcoat was really different than other 2-step products I’ve tried before like the Revlon ColorStay Overtime Lipcolor or the MUFE Aqua Rouge. Instead of being clear its thick and more opaque like a lip balm – a pretty odd formula. It did a good job of keeping my lips moisturized though.

As opposed to providing 16 hours of wear, I didn’t find it long-wearing at all, and even worse, within an hour  it looked very patchy and uneven. Provocalips was definitely a miss for me.

Have you tried it? I’m curious if other folks had a similar experience.

Thanks for reading!
Love,
Nerdy Librarian Girl ❤

Rimmel Waterproof Kohl Kajal

Rimmel London Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in "004 Taupe"

One word: Sticky. Who knew eyeliner could even BE sticky?

I was drawn to this because it is almost impossible to find a taupe eyeliner. I absolutely loved this colour.

Sadly, the formula of this eyeliner is not for me. I only applied it to my lower lash line and lower waterline. Every time I blinked, my eyes would slightly stick together. It was like the liner never really “set”. Hours later you could still smudge it. Worst of all it made my eyes water and felt itchy.

Can anyone recommend another taupe eyeliner?

I Heart Rimmel Apocalips

Rimmel London Apocalips Lip Lacquer in "201 Solstice"

Rimmel London Apocalips Lip Lacquer in “201 Solstice”

Not being a lip gloss person anymore, I didn’t jump to try one of these when they first came out in Canada last year. Rimmel describes them as “neither a lipstick nor a gloss”, which I think is a good description actually. What I love about this lip lacquer is that it stays on forever! It’s very long wearing, yet also feels good (very moisturizing) on the lips. It’s not sticky either. It feels creamy and smooth. The Solstice shade is thick and opaque. They also pass the smell test – they aren’t strongly scented and have no noticeable taste (something I can’t stand in a lip product).

They do have some shine, but you can play with how you apply it to get a glossy effect or more of a “lipstick” effect:

The only sad thing for me is that out of the 12 shades, the only one I like is the 201 Solstice, a wearable rosey shade. The lighter, “nude” shades are very light and opaque and not the most flattering against pale skin. The other shades are all extremely bright pinks and fushias (not really what I personally like to wear). Fingers crossed Rimmel comes out with some more colours.

In Canada, you can buy Rimmel products at Shoppers Drug Mart, Walmart, London Drugs, and Target. You can order online through London Drugs or Well.ca. The Apocalips retail for about $9 CND.

Rimmel London Glam’Eyes Day 2 Night Mascara

Rimmel London Glam'Eyes Day 2 Night Mascara: LEFT - "Volume" brush; RIGHT - "Length" brush

Rimmel London Glam’Eyes Day 2 Night Mascara: LEFT – “Volume” brush; RIGHT – “Length” brush

I picked up this Rimmel Glam’Eyes Day 2 Night Mascara while I was in London. It does seem to be available in Canada, but with slightly different packaging; Here the tube is pink instead of black. I picked it up at a Boots for about 7.99 pounds (or $15 CND).

The concept – a “double cap” where the top cap lengthens and the bottom cap thickens lashes – is definitely a take on MAC’s Haute & Naughty Lash mascara. You can use one or the other, or both. I love the Haute & Naughty Lash (I have been through two tubes now) so I thought I would give the Rimmel a try. Fail. I really don’t like this formula at all. It doesn’t seem to really do anything for my lashes. It isn’t black enough, and definitely not thickening or volumizing at all. It is also one of those mascaras that leaves your lashes feeling “crunchy” if you know what I mean.

Lip Gloss or Sorcery? Rimmel Stay Glossy in Non-Stop Glamour

Rimmel London Stay Glossy 6-Hour Lip Gloss in Non-stop Glamour

Rimmel London Stay Glossy 6-Hour Lip Gloss in Non-stop Glamour

Although I tend to be more of a lipstick than a lip gloss girl, I am lovin the Rimmel London Stay Glossy 6-Hour Lip Gloss in Non-stop Glamour. I saw Tanya Burr (pixi2woo) wearing it in one of her videos and it just looked so pretty. It’s a shimmery, peachy nude and it’s one of those glosses that you can pop over any lip liner or lipstick and it magically transforms it into something prettier. Check out what it can do for MAC’s Please Me lipstick, which is a matte finish:

L to R: MAC Please Me, Non-Stop Glamour over MAC Please Me, and Non-stop Glamour on its own.

L to R: MAC Please Me, Non-Stop Glamour over MAC Please Me, and Non-stop Glamour on its own.

Here it is again over MAC’s Hue (Glaze finish):

L to R: Non-stop Glamour on its own, MAC Hue, Non-Stop Glamour over MAC Hue.

L to R: Non-stop Glamour on its own, MAC Hue, Non-Stop Glamour over MAC Hue.

It does have a little sparkle, but not too much. I find its also not too sticky and is fairly long-wearing for a gloss. I havent tried any of the other Stay Glossy lip glosses, but I would definitely recommend giving this one a try!

Rimmel products are sold in Canada in Shoppers Drug Mart, Walmart, London Drugs, and Target, and are available online through London Drugs. The Stay Glossy 6-Hour Lip Gloss retails for about $7.99 CND.

Rimmel Lipsticks from London

In the UK, the selection of Rimmel products in the drugstore is huge. I’d never seen such a large display in Canada. Rimmel being a UK brand, I thought I would try some of their lipsticks out while I was there because there would be a greater selection. It turns out most of the shades I bought are available here. I got 3 Moisture Renew Lipsticks (6.49 pounds, 3 for 2).

Nude Delight and Vintage Pink are both available in Canada. To Nude or Not to Nude? seems to be a UK only shade.

I can understand why people like these because the selection and variety of shades is impressive and they are unique and trendy colours. The Nude Delight is a bit too orange toned for me personally, but the Vintage Pink and To Nude or Not to Nude? are both really pretty. Vintage pink is a mauvey-berry shade, and To Nude or Not to Nude? is a peachy-pink nude with a bit of shimmer.

Two things I discovered I don’t like about the Moisture Renew Lipsticks though: 1. the smell. They have a very strong, very sweet, very artificial smell. It reminds me of brightly coloured sugary candy. 2. They feel a little bit greasy on the lips. Not my favourite texture.

I also tried out one of the Lasting Finish “Kate” lipsticks in the shade 08 (5.49 pounds).

I liked this one better. It doesn’t have such a strong scent as the Moisture Renew (although it is a similar sweet type of scent). It actually reminds me of Froot Loops cereal. I think Rimmel needs to reconsider the fragrance they’re using. The formula of the Lasting Finish is much nicer; its creamier and feels better quality.

In Canada, Rimmel is available  in-store at Shoppers Drug Mart, Walmart, London Drugs, and Target, and online from London Drugs.
