Blush Addict Tag!

blush addict tagI saw this tag on the lovely plus+beauty27‘s blog (which if you haven’t checked out, you really should). As a ridiculously pale person incapable of tanning, I pretty much cannot live without blush and if I’m not wearing makeup, its usually the one thing I will pop on before leaving the house, even before lipstick. I am of the Kate Middleton school of blush; you can never have on too much! Blush is one of my favourite makeup products, so I knew I just had to do this tag.

What color blush suits you most?
I have very fair, cool-toned skin and I find the types of blush shades that suit me best are natural/nude shades, and light cool-toned pinks and peaches. I also try to go for more sheer blushes that I can build up so they look more subtle and natural.

Pressed, cream or loose blush?
Pressed all the way. I haven’t had much luck with cream blushes and loose blush is just way too messy for me.

Favorite shimmery blush?
This is a hard one because I’m really into matte blushes right now, but one of my favourite blushes of all time is NARS Orgasm, which is fairly shimmery I think.

Favorite matte blush?
MAC Mocha which I have heard Dita Von Teese wears. Its is so pretty on fair skin (see my post about Mocha).

Favorite cream blush?
I am not typically a big fan of cream blushes, but I do really love Benefit Benetint, which is a great cheek stain to wear on its own, layer under foundation, or pat on over liquid foundation.

Favorite drugstore blush?
I love the NYX blushes so much. I’ve posted about my favourite NYX blushes  and the NYX Baked Blushes. My absolute favourite, most repurchased NYX blush would be Angel.

Favorite high end blush?
I love MAC blushes. You can see my post on what’s in my MAC blush palette for a few of my favs. NARS blushes would be a very close second, and I’ve also posted about my favourite NARS blushes for fair skin. I have one Chanel blush, In Love, and its one of my favourite high-end blush splurges.

Biggest blush disappointment?
Definitely the Tarte Cheek Stains. I found it too sticky on the skin. Compared to Benefit’s Benetint, it didn’t set on me, so trying to apply foundation over it was an issue. I also found it too sheer and not long-wearing. Plus, I hated the strong fruity smell (why add fragrance to a cheek product?). They were a total fail for me.

Best blush packaging?
I recently picked up one of the new Urban Decay Afterglow 8-hour blushes and I think it has the coolest packaging of any blush I’ve ever seen. Very edgy with such detail. UD really nails it with packaging.

What’s on your blush wishlist?
I’ve really been wanting to try two high-end blushes: the Make Up For Ever HD powder blushes (which are $31 CAD) and the Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic Swish & Pop Blushers that I’d have to order from Nordstrom for $51.37 CAD. You can see why the Charlotte Tilbury is still just “wishlist” 🙂

Plus I just saw a review of the new Too Faced Love Flush Long-Lasting 16 hr blushes with the colour-coordinated heart shaped packaging including a heart shaped mirror and I am totally freaking out!

I am lusting after the new Too Faced Love Flush blushes!

Holy grail blush?
I have three “go-to” blushes that just never seem to fail me and that I’d never want to be without: NYX Angel, MAC Prism, and Lorac Baked Matte Satin blush in Exposed.

Review of LORAC Behind the Scenes Eye Primer

LORAC Behind the Scenes Eye Primer

LORAC Behind the Scenes Eye Primer

A sample size of the LORAC Behind the Scenes Eye Primer came with my LORAC Pro Palette. Eyeshadow primer pretty much changed my life (well my makeup life anyway, lol) but they are not all created equally. I love my Too Faced Shadow Insurance Eye Primer, so I wouldn’t have gone out specifically in search of a new eye primer.

I have tried to give this one a good go, but I have to say I really don’t care for it. I don’t think it works very well at all. My eyeshadows were creasing midway through the day and it didn’t help them stay put at all. I felt like I might as well of not used a primer. I would recommend the Too Faced or the Urban Decay Primer Potion for sure over the LORAC. They are all the same price, $24.00 CAD, although you do get more in the LORAC tube (0.5 oz VS the 0.35 oz Too Faced and 0.37 oz UD). This is my first disappointing experience with a LORAC product.

You can buy LORAC in Canada through the Nordstrom website which ships using Borderfree. Check out my post about my good experience with Borderfree.

Thanks for stopping by! ❤

Top Five Blushes for Fair Skin (High-End)

My top five blushes for fair skin (high-end)

My top five blushes for fair skin (high-end)

Sorry I haven’t posted much this week. Its the end of semester so work has been very busy. I thought I would share my blush recommendations for fair skin. This post is my top five high-end blushes. I will do my drugstore blush picks soon though!

These are in no particular order:

NARS Deep Throat

NARS “Deep Throat”

I have several NARS blushes and they have such an enormous shade range its easy to find one that works for you. My favourite NARS blush is Deep Throat, a peachy-pink that is similar to NARS Orgasm, but a lot less shimmery. ($33.00 CAD)

Chanel Joues Contraste 55 In Love

Chanel Joues Contraste 55 “In Love”

I mentioned this in a recent post, and I am totally in love with Chanel In Love. I think anyone with fair skin will like this natural, peachy-coral blush with a subtle shimmer that gives you the perfect glow. ($48.00 CAD)

theBalm FratBoy

theBalm “FratBoy”

The deepest of the five shades, theBalm’s FratBoy is a completely matte, corally-pink. I consider theBalm a “high-end” line because its difficult to find in Canada (most drug stores don’t carry it) and the price point is higher than what I consider “drugstore” ($24.00 CAD).

LORAC Exposed

LORAC Baked Matte Satin blush in “Exposed”

Lorac Baked Matte Satin blush in Exposed is a favourite of LisaLisaD1‘s and bought this one from her online shop actually. Despite its name, this blush is NOT matte; it has a beautiful (not too shimmery) sheen. I often use it as a highlight for the tops of my cheeks over another blush. Its fabulous on its own too. This peachy-pink blush is one of my all time favourites. If you’re searching for LORAC in Canada, try the Nordstrom’s site which has reasonable shipping and no additional customs charges. ($27.70 CAD)

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour blush in "Dollface"

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour blush in “Dollface”

I have three of the Tarte Amazonian Clay blushes. My Dollface is the “baby” sized version, but its available in the full-size. Dollface is a light, cool-toned, matte pink. It gives a very natural flush to the cheeks and is super long-wearing. ($31.00)

Here they are swatched in natural daylight:

I’d love to hear what your favourite blushes are for fair skin!

LORAC Pro Palette & My Experience with Borderfree

Lorac Pro Palette Packaging
When I went to the Sephora website to order the LORAC Pro Palette, I was dismayed to discover that they had stopped carrying LORAC. After checking out the interwebs, it became obvious that getting your hands on LORAC in Canada was next to impossible. Until I discovered that Nordstrom now ships to Canada using Borderfree, so you don’t incur crazy high, surprise customs charges on top of your order and shipping charges.

Here was my experience ordering from Nordstrom with Borderfree:

  • Prices on the website were displayed in CAD, which was awesome! The Pro Palette was $48.25 CAD.
  • Shipping was $8.86 CAD which is reasonable. International orders aren’t eligible for free shipping. The “duties & taxes” were only $6.27 CAD (for a total of $63.38 CAD).
  • My order shipped on February 27, and I received it on March 7, which would be 5 business days. To get it to an island in Canada in winter is pretty darn impressive!
  • Most importantly, there were no additional, unexpected customs charges.

And here it is:

LORAC Pro Palette

LORAC Pro Palette

It also came with a little baby sized Behind the Scenes Eye Primer. There have been so many reviews of the Pro Palette. For some amazing swatches and photos check out Temptalia’s review. Does it live up to all the hype? I think so. I love that it’s half matte shades, and that the shimmery shades are actually not too shimmery. They are all very wearable. Unlike some palettes, I will actually wear all of the shades. They are as pigmented and as soft and blendable as the reviews said. I am super happy with it.

I would definitely order from Nordstrom again. They carry a lot of beauty brands that aren’t readily available here in Canada, so if you’re searching for that hard to find item, you might want to check them out. I know I have my eye on some of the LORAC blushes…

Thanks for stopping by ❤
