Ipsy December Glam Bag Review

Ardell Naturel lashes, NYX Lipstick, NICKA K New York nail polish, POP Beauty eyeshadow trio, Be a Bombshell The One Stick

Ardell Naturel lashes, NYX Lipstick, NICKA K New York nail polish, POP Beauty eyeshadow trio, Be a Bombshell The One Stick

This is my fourth Glam Bag, and I am still pretty pleased. I had previously reviewed my November Glam Bag. The December theme was “Celebration!”. This bag contained:

  • Ardell Naturel 120 Demi Black lashes: $6.29
  • NYX Extra Creamy Round Lipstick in “Cream”: $5.99
  • NICKA K New York nail polish in “Classic Taupe”: $5.30
  • POP Beauty eyeshadow trio in “Smokin Hot”
  • Be a Bombshell The One Stick in “Girl Crush”: $16.98

Retail prices are in CND and don’t include taxes or applicable shipping.

I love Ardell lashes and it was great to get a new pair just in time for the holidays. I am not typically a big fan of NYX lipsticks, but I’m actually liking the formula of the Extra Creamy Round which doesnt have the typical icky, perfumey NYX lip product scent and taste. Unfortunately the colour doesnt quite suit me but I may check out some of the other shades now.

The NICKA K polish is “DBP, Toluene and added formaldehyde free’ and I loved the colour, but the formula is a bit thin and streaky and required 3-4 coats. I much prefered the Nailtini nail lacquer from last month’s Glam Bag. I also don’t think NICKA K products are available in Canada. I calculated the Canadian price from the American website (which doesnt ship internationally). UPDATE: NICKA K is sold at London Drugs, in-store only.

POP beauty is a UK based brand. I couldn’t find the eyeshadow trio for sale anywhere, which I can only guess means it may have been a special sample prepared for the Glam Bag? I did really like the shadows. The “Smokin Hot” contained great New Year’s Eve (or any party!) shades: white, silvery grey and sparkely black. They were very pigmented and I would try some other POP Beauty eyeshadows if I can find them in Canada.

The only big “fail” from this month’s bag was the Be a Bombshell The One Stick. I had been really impressed with the Be a Bombshell Lip Crayon from last month’s Glam Bag. The One Stick is obviously a take on NARS’ The Multiple. Be a Bombshell says you can use it on “eyelids, cheeks or lips for the perfect pop of color anywhere! Apply as you would regular eyeshadow, blush or lip gloss.” Yeah…not so much. This smooshy, greasy, glittery thing didn’t work on my cheeks, eyelids OR lips. Just awful.

The total retail value of the December bag (minus the POP Beauty eyeshadow which I couldn’t find a price for) was: $34.56. So, for $16 this bag had significantly less value than last month’s $108 Glam Bag.

“Day of the Dead” Make-up Look

Day of the Dead Makeup

For my Día de Muertos or “Day of the Dead” party, I did a sugar-skull inspired make-up look. Here’s a quick look at the products I used:

Makeup 137

  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer
  • MAC blackground paint pot
  • MAC smolder eye kohl
  • MAC greensmoke eyeshadow (not pictured)
  • NYX black eyeshadow single
  • Milani Color Statement lip liner in true red
  • NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in milk
  • Ardell false lashes
  • any small, pointed brush

I actually didn’t use anything to make my skin paler – I just skipped any bronzer or blush and this is how pale I look (lol). I used eyeshadow primer all around and under my eyes where I painted the black circles. For all of the black areas, I used MAC blackground paint pot and MAC smolder eye kohl, and I set it with NYX black eyeshadow (any matte black shadow would do).

I used MAC greensmoke eyeshadow on my lid to give my eyes a bit more dimension. For the red scallop pattern and dots  I used the red lip liner outlined with the black eye kohl.

On my lips I used the milk Jumbo Eye Pencil and the MAC smolder eye kohl. I was surprised how well this stayed in place all night.

I made the flower headpiece myself using a headband, some Dollar Store fake flowers and a hot glue gun. It was super simple.

Amy Winehouse Halloween Look

An idea for a fun and easy Halloween or costume-party look. Amy Winehouse is all about the hair. Luckily, I had the right hair colour to start with. I picked up a “hair donut” from Claire’s for $9.00 CND and some extensions to wrap around it and to clip in the back of my hair for $18.50 CND.

To get the 1960s beehive look without back-combing, I followed this youtube video tutorial.

The make-up products I used were:

  • MAC brule eyeshadow
  • MAC smolder eye kohl
  • Ardell 118 false lashes
  • MAC omega eyeshadow (for my crease and my Amy brows)
  • Benefit Hoola (cheek contour)
  • MAC teddy eye kohl (for the Amy beauty mark)
  • MAC angel lipstick

While I was at Claire’s I also picked up a faux flower hair pin and a faux gold chain to complete the look.

For Amy’s tattoos, I found a website TattooFun.com, that specializes in celebrity temporary tattoos. They were $19.95 CND plus shipping, but were so worth it as it really made the costume!
