Post a Quote Challenge: Day 3

“If I’m at a party where I’m not enjoying myself, I will put some cookies in my jacket pocket and leave without saying good-bye.” I love Mindy Kaling! When I was younger I always put pressure on myself to try to do things that I thought I was supposed to find “fun” and almost felt like a failure for not liking them. Now, if I don’t want to do something or I’m somewhere and not really having a good time, I’m not afraid to bail. Life is too short. Steal the cookies and get out of there!

Post a Quote Challenge: Day 2

“If you can do a half-assed job of anything, you’re a one-eyed man in a kingdom of the blind”
I know I don’t talk about books much on my blog for someone who is a Librarian, but Kurt Vonnegut is one of my favourite authors. This quote really made me laugh and has stuck with me. I think of it whenever I’m not feeling confident. Whenever you have those moments of self-doubt and question whether you’re good enough, smart enough, talented enough to do something, just remember: doing it at all is half the battle and most people are probably too afraid to even try! Then just go for it 🙂

Post a Quote Challenge: Day 1

"The formula for happiness and success is just being yourself in the most vivid possible way you can"I was tagged by Stashmatters to do the Post a Quote Challenge!

The Rules:

  • Post 1 quote a day for 3 days
  • Nominate 3 bloggers to participate per post
  • Acknowledge the person who nominated you

My first quote is something I heard Meryl Streep say when she was being interviewed about her film Julie & Julia. This is what she said she learned from Julia Child. Its my favourite quote. Its even the signature on my gmail account. I try to think of this everyday and remember how important it is to always be yourself.

Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award

Sisterhood of the World Blogger Award
I’ve been nominated for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award by the lovely Felicia from Beginner Beaute. Thanks so much, Felicia, and if you haven’t checked out her blog you really should.

For this award, here’s what you need to do:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you, linking back to their site.
  • Put the award logo on your blog.
  • Answer the ten questions they have sent you.
  • Make up ten new questions for your nominees to answer.
  • Nominate ten people

Here are the questions I had to answer:

What would be your dream job?
I know this sounds super corny, but I feel like I have my dream job. I love being a Librarian and working in a university library. First of all, I get paid to buy books, how fun is that? I find it really rewarding to help students and feel like I played a part in helping them get their education, and to help faculty members doing research on all kinds of interesting topics. If I couldn’t be a Librarian, I think I’d like to work in advertising (probably because I’m obsessed with Mad Men), or work with a charity doing fundraising, or maybe party planning.

If you can live anywhere in the world, where would you want to live?
After 10 years away, I choose to move back to the place I am originally from and its the best place in the world to live IMO. I love traveling, but I’m living where I want to live. I’m happy where I am.

If you can only use one brand of product all the time what would it be?
I was thinking of this the other day actually! It would be MAC, except that I haven’t been able to find a MAC foundation that works for me. I love the MUFE HD Invisible Cover Foundation which is light enough for my pale skin. I really like the MUFE eye shadows too, so if I had to pick just one brand, I might have to go with Make Up For Ever.

What is your favorite perfume?
Issey Miyake. I don’t change up my fragrance. Its the only thing I wear.

What do you plan on doing this summer?
Working at a university, people sometimes assume I have the summers “off”, but although I have some downtime, I use it to work on other areas of my career. I go to conferences (I’ve already been to two), I’m working on publishing a couple of papers, and presenting a national webinar with a colleague.

That all sounds super boring, right??? lol. I’m also refocusing on my health and fitness this summer. I got a personal trainer and I’m trying to eat cleaner and be more active. You can read more about some of my efforts like my Fitbit review, my 10-day detox, and check out my “Fitness Friday” posts.

What has gotten you into blogging?
I really just wanted to share my interest in makeup, accessories, skincare, and all things girly. Its often difficult to find people in “real life” who are quite as obsessed. I loved reading other beauty blogs and watching YouTube beauty gurus but often had a hard time finding information about products for very fair skin and for sensitive skin, and where to find products available in Canada. I started my blog for people looking for this information too, and also to connect with other people around the world who share similar interests.

Where do you currently live?
Newfoundland, Canada. It’s a large island with a small population and is the furthest east you can go in North America (we even have our own time zone and are half an hour ahead of the rest of the continent). I like to joke that I’m clinging to the side of a rock sticking out into the middle of the frigid north Atlantic.

Does any of your family/friends know you blog?
Not really. I have mentioned it to my fiance and a few very close friends, but haven’t disclosed the name of the blog and as far as I know, none of them have seen it. Mainly because I don’t think the content would be all that interesting to them, but also because I guess part of me is a little self-conscious about it.

What is your favorite song right now?
Oh dear, I am the worst person for keeping up with popular music.  I have Sirius satellite radio in my car and basically listen to the On Broadway channel non-stop (all songs from Broadway musicals). I don’t have ANY music on my phone. I prefer to listen to eAudio books. I’m a huge nerd 🙂

What is your favorite car/dream car?
I’m not really a car person. I didn’t own a car until I was 30 because I preferred to bike everywhere. When I moved back to Newfoundland, the winters are too crazy and long for that. I appreciate having a vehicle I can drive places, but I don’t really care what kind of car it is. I picked my current car because it was affordable and got good gas mileage to minimize my carbon footprint. Remember that part about being a huge nerd?

Hope you found that at least a little interesting! 🙂

Here are my 10 questions that the folks I’m tagging have to answer (I decided on summer-themed questions, seemed appropriate):

  • What is your favourite way to cool off in the summertime?
  • Whats your favourite frozen treat?
  • Whats your favourite barbequed food?
  • Do you prefer swimming in a pool or a lake/ocean?
  • Bikini, one-piece or “other”?
  • What is your best summertime memory from childhood?
  • What would your dream summer vacation be?
  • What is your essential, can’t-live-without-it summer beauty product?
  • What summer accessory are you loving most right now?
  • What are you reading this summer?

I nominate:
R Cubed
My Exquisite World
Your Fairy Godmother
Queen of Sparkles
The Makeup Whoreder
Makeup on a Tight Budget
Kayla’s Chaos
Hello Kaily
Any bloggers reading this who’d like to answer my summer-themed questions! 🙂

I did check to make sure none were already nominated, but if I’m mistaken and have inadvertently re-nominated anyone, my apologies!

Thanks for reading and I hope you’re all having a great summer!

Blush Addict Tag!

blush addict tagI saw this tag on the lovely plus+beauty27‘s blog (which if you haven’t checked out, you really should). As a ridiculously pale person incapable of tanning, I pretty much cannot live without blush and if I’m not wearing makeup, its usually the one thing I will pop on before leaving the house, even before lipstick. I am of the Kate Middleton school of blush; you can never have on too much! Blush is one of my favourite makeup products, so I knew I just had to do this tag.

What color blush suits you most?
I have very fair, cool-toned skin and I find the types of blush shades that suit me best are natural/nude shades, and light cool-toned pinks and peaches. I also try to go for more sheer blushes that I can build up so they look more subtle and natural.

Pressed, cream or loose blush?
Pressed all the way. I haven’t had much luck with cream blushes and loose blush is just way too messy for me.

Favorite shimmery blush?
This is a hard one because I’m really into matte blushes right now, but one of my favourite blushes of all time is NARS Orgasm, which is fairly shimmery I think.

Favorite matte blush?
MAC Mocha which I have heard Dita Von Teese wears. Its is so pretty on fair skin (see my post about Mocha).

MAC Mocha blush

MAC Mocha matte blush

Favorite cream blush?
I am not typically a big fan of cream blushes, but I do really love Benefit Benetint, which is a great cheek stain to wear on its own, layer under foundation, or pat on over liquid foundation.

Benefit Benetint Cheek Stain

Benefit Benetint Cheek Stain

Favorite drugstore blush?
I love the NYX blushes so much. I’ve posted about my favourite NYX blushes  and the NYX Baked Blushes. My absolute favourite, most repurchased NYX blush would be Angel.

NYX Angel blush

NYX Angel blush

Favorite high end blush?
I love MAC blushes. You can see my post on what’s in my MAC blush palette for a few of my favs. NARS blushes would be a very close second, and I’ve also posted about my favourite NARS blushes for fair skin. I have one Chanel blush, In Love, and its one of my favourite high-end blush splurges.

Chanel Joues Contraste 55 In Love

Chanel Joues Contraste 55 In Love

Biggest blush disappointment?
Definitely the Tarte Cheek Stains. I found it too sticky on the skin. Compared to Benefit’s Benetint, it didn’t set on me, so trying to apply foundation over it was an issue. I also found it too sheer and not long-wearing. Plus, I hated the strong fruity smell (why add fragrance to a cheek product?). They were a total fail for me.

Tarte Cheek Stain in Flush

Best blush packaging?
I recently picked up one of the new Urban Decay Afterglow 8-hour blushes and I think it has the coolest packaging of any blush I’ve ever seen. Very edgy with such detail. UD really nails it with packaging.

What’s on your blush wishlist?
I’ve really been wanting to try two high-end blushes: the Make Up For Ever HD powder blushes (which are $31 CAD) and the Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic Swish & Pop Blushers that I’d have to order from Nordstrom for $51.37 CAD. You can see why the Charlotte Tilbury is still just “wishlist” 🙂

Plus I just saw a review of the new Too Faced Love Flush Long-Lasting 16 hr blushes with the colour-coordinated heart shaped packaging including a heart shaped mirror and I am totally freaking out!

Too Faced Love Flush blush

I am lusting after the new Too Faced Love Flush blushes!

Holy grail blush?
I have three “go-to” blushes that just never seem to fail me and that I’d never want to be without: NYX Angel, MAC Prism, and Lorac Baked Matte Satin blush in Exposed.

I think I will do as plus+beauty27 did and invite anyone to do this tag who likes blush as much as I do! I had fun doing this tag and I hope you had fun reading it!

Blog Tour Award

blog tour award
I got tagged to do the Blog Tour Award by fellow Canadian blogger Stash Matters. If you aren’t following her blog, you really should be!

• Pass the tour on to up to 4 other bloggers.
• Give your nominees the rules and a specific Monday to post (please, post your story on Monday, June 8th).
• Answer 4 questions about your creative process which lets other bloggers and visitors know what inspires you to do what you do!

The 4 questions are:

1. How does my work differ from others in my genre?
I love reading other beauty blogs and watching YouTube beauty gurus but I often had a hard time finding information about products for very fair skin and for sensitive skin. I think that makes my blog a little unique. I’m also Canadian and like to provide information about where to find products in Canada and Canadian pricing.

2. How does my writing/creative process work?
I’m inspired by all kinds of things: new products, other bloggers, flipping through a magazine, and sometimes ideas just pop into my head. I usually have a list of upcoming posts I’d like to do that I’m working through. I have a full-time job, so I’m typically writing on evenings and weekends.

3. Why do I write or create what I do?
I wanted my blog to be a fun hobby that was completely different from what I spend my workday doing. As I mentioned, I loved reading other beauty blogs and watching YouTubers, and had an interest in makeup, skincare, fashion, accessories, and all things girly. About 2 years ago, I thought – why don’t I start my own blog?! I wanted to connect with other people around the world who share my love of makeup and fashion, and I have. Its really fun!

4. What I’m working on at the moment?
There’s my High-end Lipstick Review series and giveaway, which I’m almost finished. I also have a few ideas for some high-end/low-end comparisons, like lip scrub. Plus, I’m interested in doing some health and fitness type of posts which will be fairly different from that I’ve been posting so far.

Hope you enjoyed this “tour”! Here are my 4 nominees:

Finger Candy
Thrifty Meet Splurgy
Grateful Geek
My Exquisite World

The Lipstick Tag!

I saw this tag on Stashmatters blog, and in addition to tagging the required 3 people, she also said if you haven’t been tagged and wanted to do this tag, to post a comment and she’d officially tag you! I loved the questions and wanted to do it.

The questions:

1. How many lipsticks do you own? Ok, this was scary. I’d never actually counted them before. Shamefully, I own 86 lipsticks (not including glosses, jumbo lip pencils or crayons, etc.).

2. What was your first ever lipstick? In highschool, no one wore lipstick. We were all about filling in our lips with brown-hued lip liner. Hey it was the 90s! So I actually remember purchasing my first actual lipstick when I was in university. It was a Clinique lipstick. I remember I loved the fluted silver tube!

My first lipstick was a Clinique lipstick in a bronzey-brownish type of shade

3. What is your most worn lipstick? Currently, MAC Capricious. I’m on my second tube.

4. What is your favorite brand for lipsticks? MAC!

5. What is your favorite finish? MAC lustre. Best finish ever.

6. What is the last lipstick you bought? Anna Sui Lipstick V in Beige Pink. I will be doing a full review soon!

7. How many lip products do you currently have in your bag? This is always a ridiculously high number! Right now, 13. Make no wonder my purse weighs a ton.

8. What lipstick do you use to rock a red lip? MAC Dubonnet.

MAC Dubonnet Lipstick

Best red lipstick for cool-toned fair skin!

9. How do you store your lipsticks? I have clear plastic containers that I picked up at a home-decor store, some that have actual dividers specifically for lipsticks. But they are overflowing!

10. What lip products are you currently lusting over? Cle de Peau because I cannot get it in Canada (you always want what you can’t have), Chantecaille Lip Chic and Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G. in Bitch Perfect.

Blog Awards: Premio Dardos and Versatile Blogger

Premio Dardos Award
I was nominated for two awards by the very cool fellow Canadian blogger, Fivezero. Thanks so much! First up is the Premio Dardos: The Premio Dardos Award is given for recognition of cultural, ethical, literary, and personal values transmitted in the form of creative and original writing. These stamps were created with the intention of promoting fraternization between bloggers, a way of showing affection and gratitude for work that adds value to the Web.

Then there’s the Versatile Blogger Award: When you consider nominating a fellow blogger for the Versatile Blogger Award, consider the quality of the writing, the uniqueness of the subjects covered, the level of love displayed in the words on the virtual page. Or, of course, the quality of the photographs and the level of love displayed in the taking of them. Honor those bloggers who bring something special to your life whether every day or only now and then.

Versatile Blogger Award

The Versatile Blogger Award requires you to reveal 7 things about yourself. Here are 7 (hopefully interesting) facts about me:

    1. I love old, black and white movies and classic TV shows. I have literally seen every single episode of Bewitched. My favourite film of all time is Gone with the Wind.
    2. Even though I’m a Librarian, I don’t have any books or bookshelves in my house. I borrow books from the library or read them on my eBook reader.
    3. If I could have any super power it would be teleportation. I love to visit new places but I hate the traveling part.
    4. My whole life I never liked olives which I thought was silly, so 3 years ago I decided my new year’s resolution would be to like olives. I kept trying them over and over, and now I do actually like them!
    5. I used to be a vegetarian (for over 7 years). My iron was always low and eventually I caved and started eating meat again and have never looked back. Yay bacon!
    6. I am the worst singer yet I love karaoke.
    7. I have always secretly wanted to play the banjo.

Both awards require me to nominate 15 other bloggers. I am nominating:

Katelynn of Sentimental Stuff
Finger Candy
Jessica Kachan
Kayla Cheyenne Boyd of Kaylas Chaos
Thalia of ChromaMeSilly
Denisse Rios of Queen Denisse
Broke Beauty Blogger on a Budget
Katie of Plus+ Beauty (for the Premio Dardos because she’s already been nominated for the Versatile Blogger)
Raisa The Makeup Whoreder
Beautiful Beakers (for the Premio Dardos because she’s already been nominated for the Versatile Blogger)
Canadian Stash Matters
Hatice thebeautyvampire
Pooja from My Exquisite World
Carol of cassmadaboutfashion
The World of Cos (for the Premio Dardos because she’s already been nominated for the Versatile Blogger)

Summer Love Tag!

Summer Love TagI was nominated to do the “Summer Love Tag” by the lovely Sonalhira…x. I know summer is almost over, but here are some of the things I’ve loved this summer:

1. Summer lipstick you’re loving?
I’ve been gravitating toward plums and darker, vampy shades lately (not very “summery”). I guess I am in fall mode already! The more summer time type of shade I’ve been wearing is MAC Syrup.

MAC lipstick in Syrup

MAC lipstick in “Syrup”

2. Summer nail polish you’re loving?
I love really dark shades on summer toes! This summer I’ve been wearing Essie “Over the Edge”, a “dramatic metallic midnight silver”, pretty much non-stop.

Essie "Over the Edge"

Essie “Over the Edge” (Photo from

3. Bikini you’re loving?
I’m more of a full-piece, vintage, Marilyn Monroe-inspired swimsuit gal. My fav is my halter neck, black swimsuit with red cherry print.

4. Favorite summer frappuccino from Starbucks?
I like a plain ol’ iced coffee – literally coffee with ice-cubes.

5. Favorite fake tan?
For pale gals, check out my review of Jergens Natural Glow. It really works!

6. Favorite summer song?
I am such a nerd and not really into pop music 😛

7. Favorite summer accessories?
My pink fedora with an even pinker faux flower, cause why not.
nerdylibrariangirl8. Favorite summer fragrance/perfume?
Issey Miyake.

9. Summer book you’re loving?
Summer is all about the Netflix binge watching (Orange is the New Black season 2, Homeland, V). I am a bad, bad Librarian.

10. What are you most excited to do this summer? What is the most exciting thing you did this summer?
Go to Vegas! Check out some of my posts on Vegas Makeup shopping here, here & here.

I feel like its too late to tag others with a summer-themed tag with summer being nearly over. I tag anyone reading this to reply to this post with answers to these 3 questions:

  1. What’s your fav fall lipstick?
  2. What’s your fav fall blush?
  3. What’s your fav fall accessory?

Thanks for visiting my blog! ❤

Liebster Award Nomination!

Liebster Award
I was nominated for a Liebster Award by the super cute ColorMePeach. The rules are: I have to answer 11 questions given to me by the person who nominated me, list 11 random/fun facts about myself, and nominate 11 bloggers with under 200 followers to answer my questions, and let them know they’re nominated (fyi – I wasn’t sure how to determine “followers” since there are many ways to subscribe to a blog, so I’m just going by WordPress followers).

Here are the 11 questions from ColorMePeach:

1. Do you watch youtube makeup gurus, and who are your favorites? I am addicted to youtube, and I subscribe to a lot of different beauty vloggers. Just a few of my current favourites are:

2. If you had to live in an extreme climate would it be very hot or cold? I’m from Canada. Cold of course 🙂

3. Who inspired you to blog? Not so much a specific “who”. I loved reading other people’s blogs and I knew I had lots of opinions about makeup myself. I thought I might have a unique perspective to offer because I’m Canadian, I have very fair skin and also sensitive skin. I always had a hard time finding info on where to buy products in Canada, and reviews specific to my skintone and type. That’s what inspired me to start my blog.

4. Do you try and save money on makeup? If so, how? That’s difficult in Canada. I’m always hearing about amazing sales at some of the American chains, like Ulta, but Canadian drugstores don’t really do that. Plus I end up having to order most things online. A couple of things I do to try to save money are:

  • Read the fine print about shipping before I order online, and use companies that either offer free shipping with a minimum purchase, or ship via USPS or Canada Post, and don’t charge additional customs or import duties.
  • Redeem my Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum Points on makeup. All my Chanel makeup for instance I got with Optimum Points.

5. Do you have any pets? I had a dog, a german-sheppard cross named Clov, who I had for 12 years. She passed away two years ago 😦

My dog Clov

My dog Clov

6. Under water snorkeling or skydiving? Honestly, neither. I’m not much of a thrill seeker. Both sound way too scary.

7. What’s your favorite number? I don’t really have one.

8. What are your plans in 5 years? Well, I’m engaged, so in 5 years I plan on being married, and we’ll need to buy a bigger house (I bought a really little place when I was single). I love my job, so I plan on still working in the same place. Other than that, I don’t have any specific plans. I’ll just see where life takes me I guess 🙂

9. Favorite can’t-live-without makeup product? Under-eye concealer!

My two favourite concealers: Laura Mercier Secret Concealer & L'Oreal Magic Lumi Concealer

My two favourite concealers: Laura Mercier Secret Concealer & L’Oreal Magic Lumi Concealer

10. What is a store you always stop at while shopping? Sephora!

11. What’s your most unique piece of clothing? Probably my fascinator collection – I have about a dozen or so.

11 Fun/Random Facts About Me:

  • My favourite colour is pink
  • I have an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts
  • I am lactose & gluten intolerant
  • I once drove the entire way across Canada, from British Columbia to Newfoundland
  • I’ve never had “brain freeze”: my useless superpower is that I can drink or eat super cold things really fast
  • My favourite cocktail is a Vodka Gimlet (vodka, club soda, and a twist of lime on ice)
  • I have a sister who has red hair and freckles and looks nothing like me
  • I love old, black and white Hollywood films
  • My favourite tv show of all time is Buffy the Vampire Slayer
  • I’m tall (5’9″) and have really big feet (size 10)
  • I’ve always wanted to ride in a hot air balloon

I’m nominating these 11 awesome bloggers:

Their 11 questions are:

1. Which current celebrity do you think has the best makeup?
2. If you had to pick, which one of these 1980s movie characters would you be?

Claire from The Breakfast Club, Baby from Dirty Dancing, or Sloane from Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Claire from The Breakfast Club, Baby from Dirty Dancing, or Sloane from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

3. What is your number one, absolute favourite lipstick of all time?
4. What is your favourite shade of eyeshadow right now?
5. Is there a nailpolish shade you’re currently loving?
6. What was the first makeup or beauty product you remember buying?
7. Which decade’s makeup style do you like best?
makeup styles through the decades
8. What splurge-worthy, high-end makeup item is on your wish list right now?
9. What are you currently binge-watching on Netflix or whats in your recently viewed list?
10. Have you ever tried a makeup or beauty DIY and if so, how did it work out?
11. What is one helpful makeup or beauty tip you could share?

I’m looking forward to everyone’s posts!

Thanks for stopping by,

Beauty Blogger of the Month Nomination!

beauty blogger of the month awardI was nominated for Cecilia’s Corner Beauty Blogger of the Month Award by the sweet and lovely Christina from A Casual Beauty and the talented Sonal from sonalhira…x. You should really check out their beauty blogs. I think this award that Cecilia created is such a neat idea and I am very honored and excited to be nominated.

Part of the nomination is answering these 7 beauty related questions:

1. Where does your makeup inspiration come from? From my mom and my grandma, both very beautiful ladies who would never leave the house without looking glamorous. For day-to-day inspiration, other beauty bloggers and youtubers (I’m addicted to tutorials!). I’m also always looking closely at the actresses’ makeup whenever I’m watching a tv show on Netflix or a movie, and then I have to Google what eyeshadow or lipstick they were wearing. I even ask strangers what makeup they’re wearing sometimes! So I get inspiration from a lot of places.

2. What are 3 of your makeup Holy Grail products you cannot live without?
Concealer, concealer, concealer? I definitely could not live without under-eye concealer. If I had to pick two more, I would go with blush and lipstick. My three couldn’t-live-without-them makeup products would have to be:

Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage Concealer, Benefit Benetint, and MAC Capricious lipstick

Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage Concealer, Benefit Benetint Cheek Stain, and MAC Capricious lipstick (my current favourite)

3. What is your makeup signature look which you have on most of the time?
Most days I have on very work appropriate (I work at a library) and natural looking makeup: foundation and concealer, light neutral eyeshadow, mascara, blush, and either a nude, a pink or a berry-toned lip.

The makeup look I have on most of the time

The makeup look I have on most of the time

4. Let us know your favorite makeup brands? Let’s see…MAC, Revlon, NYX, Benefit, and if I’m feeling splurgey, Chanel and Guerlain.

5. Your ultimate makeup pet peeve? I don’t really have a specific one, except maybe not wearing makeup at all, ever. I have to hold back the urge to start putting makeup on them 🙂

6. You’ve heard about all the hype on this makeup item, bought it, tried it and don’t understand what all the fuss is about…Name that product!

Tom Ford Lip Color

7. Concealer OR foundation ONLY for the rest of your life. Choose one and tell us the reason! Concealer, definitely! I am very pale and my under-eye area is quite dark and purpley and really stands out. Without concealer I look so tired. I also strongly believe that over the age of 30, under-eye concealer is not optional – lol.

I am also happy to nominate 7 other awesome bloggers to receive next month’s Beauty Blogger award:

Lipstick Addict Tag!

lipstick addict tagI’ve seen a bunch of YouTubers doing the “Lipstick Addict” tag lately. Nobody tagged me specifically, but I really liked this tag and I’ve never done one before and I thought it would be fun. I’m especially excited to tag some other bloggers. So let’s get started…

1. Favorite Lip Balm

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant Fragrance Free

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant – Fragrance Free

The Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant (Fragrance Free) works great as a lip balm, especially in winter when your lips get really dry. I put it on at night before bed.

2. Best Eye-Catching Red

MAC Dubonnet Lipstick

MAC Dubonnet Lipstick

I had the hardest time finding a red lipstick that suited me. I have very pink undertones and a lot of pink in my lips. Every red I tried would look hot pink or fushia on me. The first time I went into a MAC store (after swatching literally every red lipstick in Sephora) it was in search of a red. Dubonnet is the first MAC lipstick I ever bought and still the only red lipstick I own. Its a very intense, more blue than orange red, with a bit of a brown undertone. If you have fair, cool-toned skin this would be a good red to get.

3. Best Luxury Brand

Chanel Coco Shine in Parfait

Chanel Coco Shine in “Parfait”

I only have a few lipsticks from luxury brands (Tom Ford, Burberry, NARS) but my Chanel lipsticks are the ones I enjoy the most. I have Rouge Coco in “Mademoiselle” and Rouge Coco Shine in “Bel-Ami” which I have already blogged about, and this one, Rouge Coco Shine in “Parfait” which is the yummiest pink. I love the scent of Chanel lipsticks!

4. Best Drugstore Brand

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in "Adore" & Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in "Fig Jam"

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in “Adore” (top swatch) & Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in “Fig Jam” (bottom swatch)

My favourite drugstore brand is definitely Revlon, and the Kissable Balm Stains and the Lip Butters are tied for best Revlon lip product. I have a couple of the Balm Stains and I like ‘Adore” the best. I think its similar to MAC’s Dubonnet in that it’s a slightly blue-toned, slightly brownish red. I have a lot of the Lip Butters (I was a little obsessed there for a while) and “Fig Jam”, a deep reddish brown, is my favourite.

5. Best MAC

MAC "Modesty" lipstick

MAC “Modesty” lipstick

This was a difficult one. How do you pick just one favourite MAC lipstick??? I went with one of my favs that doesn’t get mentioned a lot but I think is just an amazing shade, “Modesty”, a neutral, nude pink. Its such a natural, wearable shade.

6. Most Disappointing

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in "Liar"

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in “Liar”

A few other people who have done this tag have listed the Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick as their most disappointing. I was so excited about this line. Just look at the beautiful hammered gunmetal tube! I was loving the UD Naked palettes and then along comes a UD lipstick line full of wearable, nude shades. But, sadly, I am just not in love with this formula. Too thick, too creamy, too opaque. Its not the kind of texture that applies easily or smoothly and it has a dull, almost matte finish. When I’m wearing it, it just feels “blah”.

7. Lip liner yes or no?
YES! I love lipliners. MAC are my favourite, and I have posts on my favourite drugstore lipliners if you’re interested: Annabelle and Milani.

8. Best Gloss
Its a tie between Rimmel Stay Glossy in “Non-Stop Glamour” and the NYX Butter Glosses. Check out my posts for pics & swatches 🙂

9. Something Extra

Quo Lipstick from Shoppers Drug Mart

Quo Lipstick from Shoppers Drug Mart

If you haven’t tried anything from Shoppers Drug Mart’s line, Quo, you might want to give one of their lipsticks a go. I picked this one up last summer. I don’t know if the shade had a name; it only says “6” on the bottom of the tube. I really enjoyed this sheer lipstick in a pretty peachy-pink. It had no scent or taste and felt really hydrating and smooth on my lips and cost less than $10.00 CAD.

That’s all for my Lipstick Addict tag. Now I am tagging:
