In Canada, one of our largest national drugstore chains, Shoppers Drug Mart, has a rewards program called Optimum points. The points you earn have a cash value and can be redeemed for most any items in the store for up to a maximum of $170 CAD. My favourite way to redeem my points is at their beautyBOUTIQUE, which carries high-end brands. There are lots of beautyBOUTIQUE locations in Canada, like the big one in the Eaton’s Centre, but just not near where I live. Luckily you can order online! They’re changing the Optimum program and merging it with another points program this month, so last month there were “spend your points” events, probably to entice people into redeeming their points prior to the merge. I was able to redeem my 50,000 points for $105 CAD (an extra $20). Here are the high-end goodies I got for my points.
First, I just have to point out how nicely the beautyBOUTIQUE packages your purchase. You always get a cute, reusable box and all of your items are wrapped in tissue paper. They even put my three free samples in a cute little drawstring bag. So classy!
The first thing I added to my cart was the Guerlain KissKiss Shaping Cream Lip Colour Lipstick. If you remember my High-end Lipstick Review Series from a couple of years ago, I have one Guerlain lippie, a Rouge G de Guerlain Jewel Lipstick, that I absolutely love. I have been wanting to try the Guerlain KissKiss lipsticks for a while now.
I love the packaging of the Guerlain lipsticks! Its very weighty, which always makes me feel like its “high-end.” The chic KissKiss packaging apparently references a “precious and graceful black dress.”
According to Guerlain, “KissKiss offers the perfect union of colour and radiance and a perfect coverage for a satiny, vibrant finish with impeccable hold. Lips immediately regain their fullness and softness thanks to a formula enriched with plumping hyaluronic acid spheres. Mango butter ensures lips stay hydrated and comfortable, while Commiphora Myrrha oil helps smooth the lip surface.”
I love the formula of the KissKiss. Its sheer, but buildable, very hydrating and yummy, and has a nice shimmery/shiny finish. That is pretty much my perfect lipstick formula. 🙂
Not being able to visit the beautyBOUTIQUE in-person and swatch anything, I could only Google image search the shades I was interested in. I really thought I would like Cherry Pink and I was correct. Although cute, “Cherry Pink” might not be the best name, because it isn’t really pink at all. Its a cool-toned, berry-red. It looks very dark and vampy in the tube, but it applies much lighter than it appears. This shade stays on forever and wears off nicely leaving behind quite an intense berry stain.
The KissKiss lipstick has a berry scent, which reminds me of a fresh raspberry or blackberry. I typically prefer more lightly scented or unscented lipsticks, but I don’t mind the scent. It does smell very natural (not cheap or chemically) and I don’t notice it while I’m wearing it – just when I’m applying it. However, if scented products really aren’t your thing, this might not be for you.
I knew I really wanted to use my points towards some things from Chanel. If you remember, Chanel was the winner of my High-End Lipstick Review Series 🙂
I picked up a Chanel Rouge Coco Ultra Hydrating Lip Colour. I already have one of these lipsticks in the shade Mademoiselle, and a couple of the Rouge Coco Shine lipsticks (which are phenomenal!). The Chanel lipsticks are one of my absolute favourites. Here’s the description of Chanel Rouge Coco: “The combination of three vegetable waxes−mimosa, jojoba and sunflower−hydrates, nourishes the lips and ensures immediate and lasting comfort. A silicone wax delivers a new sensory experience. Softer and more melt-away, gliding on more easily for an immediate sensation of fusion with the lips. A new polymer film and silicone microbeads encourage lasting hold and boosted shine.”
I must have been feeling in a very berry mood, because, after some more Google image searching, I picked the shade 446 Etienne. Its a deep, cool-toned blue-red with a bit of a burgundy vibe. I really love the formula and finish of the Rouge Coco lipstick. Like the Guerlain KissKiss, the Chanel is sheer yet you can build it up, and feels comfy and hydrating on the lips. The finish is more satin than shiny.
I also really love the scent. Chanel lipsticks and blushes are all rose scented and smell vaguely of Turkish delight. To me the scent of a Chanel lipstick is like the scent of a MAC lipstick – iconic and unique.
Here are the two shades swatched side-by-side:
Finally, I also picked up a Chanel Le Vernis Longwear Nail Colour. I am a big fan of the Chanel polishes. They have the best shades and they are a very good quality polish. I only ever get them with Optimum points though. I got the shade 558 Sargasso, a very dark grey.
Regular prices for these items would be:
Guerlain KissKiss Shaping Cream Lip Colour Lipstick – $44 CAD
Chanel Rouge Coco Ultra Hydrating Lip Colour – $43 CAD
Chanel Le Vernis Longwear Nail Colour – $32 CAD
I went a teensy bit over my $105 but only by $14. Thats still pretty good, right? I love redeeming points for high-end makeup.
Hope you enjoyed this post!
