I really love Besame Cosmetics – the packaging, the whole vibe and philosophy behind all of their retro vintage-inspired beauty products. I’m also a huge fan of everything Snow White, as evidenced by my 2016 Halloween costume:
As soon as I saw the limited edition Besame Cosmetics Snow White Collection in my Instagram feed I just about nearly freaked out. The only problem? I live in Canada. I did order from Besame once before in 2013, and the brokerage and customs fees through UPS were $55.00 on top of the exchange rate from USD for the order. Although I loved the products (you can check out my post), particularly the Classic Color Lipsticks, I was reluctant to order from them again. Luckily, my Dad was wintering in Florida. So I had my order delivered to his address and then he mailed it to me through Canada Post. Hooray!
There were so many great things in the collection and, to be honest, I wanted to order everything. I cannot even deal with the cuteness of the packaging of this collection. Here’s what Besame had to say about the collab:
“To celebrate the 80th anniversary of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs we have collaborated with Disney to create this exclusive collection, inspired by the original artwork and color palette of this iconic film. Through extensive and careful research, we have painstakingly hand selected and matched the colors from the original color palette provided by Disney’s Ink and Paint Department to bring you a beautiful and authentic recreation of the colors from the classic 1937 film. Experience the truly timeless and stunning beauty of the original animation in a brand new way.”
I knew I had to have the Snow White Cosmetic Travel Bag. I love the retro, bowling bag shape. Is this not the cutest cosmetic bag you’ve ever seen?
I was so impressed with Besame’s attention to detail. I love the apple tag and the little apple detail on the zipper pull.
I collect compacts, so I really wanted the Ever After Translucent Pearl Powder. I had previously ordered their Signature Compact in Porcelain and thought the powder was awesome for carrying in your purse for touch-ups. The Ever After Translucent Pearl Powder is a “lightweight pressed face powder to set your makeup…Super-refined powder for sheerest coverage, with subtle pearl.” This is the design on the inside of the box:
The compact is so beautiful. According to Besame, “the artwork was based on an original trading card produced when the film was released in 1937.” Even after the face powder is used up, this is such an amazing collectible piece.
The Classic Color Lipsticks are similar in formula and finish to MAC creamsheens. There are four Classic Color Lipsticks in the collection, but I limited myself to choosing just one. Described as “faithful recreations of Snow White’s lip color, based on the original ‘Ink and Paint’ colors of the 1937 animated classic. The gold case features Snow White’s flower, the apple blossom.” I picked One Bite a “delicious deep cocoa with a violet-mauve undertone.”
To me, this is a perfect “Snow White” shade. Its a not too cool, not too warm, bluish-red with some brown undertones going on. Its fantastic on fair skin and even though its quite dark, its still able to be a wearable red. The Classic Color Lipsticks have a light, subtle scent that is similar to a MAC lipstick, except slightly sweeter, like a vanilla cake batter. They smell amazing!
The last item I couldn’t resist, mostly because of the collectible metal tins, was the Snow White’s Pies Lip Balm Trio, “a collection of three deliciously scented lip balms to prevent dryness and prepare lips for the kiss of a handsome prince.” My readers will know how obsessed with lip balm I am 🙂
Besame’s “trio of sweetly fruity lip balms in the Dwarf’s three favorite forest flavors: gooseberry, cherry, and apple” smell slightly fruity and are actually a pretty decent lip balm. I don’t notice that much of a difference between each of the “flavours” apart from the difference in colour.
The pale pink Apple is basically transparent, but I was surprised that Gooseberry and Cherry provide some real colour pay off. They are more of a true tinted lip balm.
I feel super happy to have been able to get some of the items from the Besame Snow White Collection. Here are the prices, in case you’re interested:
Snow White Cosmetic Travel Bag: $35 USD
Ever After Translucent Pearl Powder: $35 USD
Classic Color Lipstick in One Bite: $24 USD
“Snow White’s Pies” Lip Balm Trio: $18 USD
The total in USD was $112.00 but that came to $145.76 CAD with the exchange rate. Shipping was free to Florida, and the shipping by regular mail to Canada (by my Dad) was inexpensive. I still wish it was easier (and more affordable) to order from Besame. Some of their products are available here through Sephora but the selection is VERY limited.
I hope you enjoyed this review and thanks so much for reading!
