How About an “Anti-Haul” Post?

anti-haul
Hi everyone! I have been seeing these “anti-haul” videos and posts everywhere lately and I think they are pretty interesting. For anyone not familiar, an “anti-haul” is when you talk about items that have recently been released that you don’t have any interest in purchasing, for various reasons. Its like the exact opposite of a wish-list. I have often found that a hyped new item will come out that I’m seeing everywhere, that everyone seems to be talking about, but it doesn’t hold any particular appeal for me. I had never thought to post about items that don’t interest me, but I have enjoyed some other anti-haul videos and posts, so I thought I would give an anti-haul a try.

This is not meant to drag any specific brands or anything. I’m just going to share with you why some recently released products just don’t seem like my cup of tea. They might be products you’re totally excited about or have already purchased and that’s ok too. This is just my opinion – feel free to disagree and leave me a comment ๐Ÿ™‚

The first item on my anti-haul list is the Too Faced limited edition White Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Palette. People seem super excited about what I think of as “another unnecessarily scented Too Faced palette.” Don’t get me wrong, I have all kinds of love for my old-school Too Faced Matte Eye Palette – I hit pan on a couple of those shades – and you know I love the Too Faced Shadow Insurance Eye Shadow Primer. I’m just not into the more recent endless parade of heavily scented eye shadow palettes: Chocolate Bars, Chocolate Bon Bons, Peanut Butter & Jelly, Peanut Butter & Honey,ย  Chocolate Chips, White Chocolate Chips, Sweet Peaches, etc., etc. Why, Too Faced, why? I have really sensitive skin that does not react well to fragrance,ย  and the thought of putting scented eye shadow on my eyelids? Just nope, nope, nope.

Next up on my anti-haul list is Rihanna’s limited edition Fenty Beauty Galaxy holiday collection. I feel like I’m seeing this literally everywhere. I understand, the packaging is totally fabulous, but this collection is pretty much the exact opposite of what I’m looking for when it comes to makeup.

The Galaxy Eyeshadow Palette is a completely glitter palette described as “hyper-reflective sparkle meets a rainbow of 14 celestial-inspired colors.” I know some people would absolutely love this, but I just don’t have much interest at this stage in my life in an entire palette of glittery rainbow eye shadows (for $69.00 CAD). The Starlit Hyper-Glitz Lipstick‘s “microshimmers reflect a jewel chrome sheen” and the Cosmic Gloss Lip Glitter is “packed with iridescent glitter and drenched in mirror-like shine for a mega-dose of multidimensional shimmer.” Or as Rihanna herself describes it “Glitter on glitter on glitter.” Hard pass.

Continuing the glittery trend of 2017, is Stila’s Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow. This “liquid glitter eyeshadow” promises “maximum sparkle.” Again, I know a lot of people love glittery shadows, but they’re just not my jam. I also find the applicator for these shadows unusual. Something about having a lip-gloss type applicator for an eyeshadow doesn’t appeal to me. This one is on my anti-haul list too.

This next item initially caught my eye with its super cute pink packaging and what I thought were neutral eye shadow shades. Sadly, the Tarte Park Ave Princess Chisel Palette is another palette of contours and highlights completely unsuited for fair skin ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Another shiny new item is the limited edition Tom Ford Private Shadow, 30 single eye shadow shades in five finishes – glitter, matte, metallic, satin, and shimmer. These made my anti-haul list because they are $44.00 CAD each! Way too expensive for me right now.

The last item on my anti-haul is from MAC, the Holiday 2017 Snowball Collection. I saw this in person while I was in Toronto and had a chance to swatch most of these shades. Although the limited edition special packaging on the Snowball collection is really pretty, none of the lipstick or eye shadow shades jumped out at me. I wasn’t overly excited by this holiday collection.

Well, that’s it for my first ever anti-haul post. I hope you enjoyed it. I think these types of posts can be fun every once and a while! I’d love to hear if you have any anti-haul type of products that you’ve seen that you’re just not that interested in, and why.

thanks so much for reading ๐Ÿ™‚

Why do eyeshadows need to be scented? Mint or vanilla in a ipstick, balm, or gloss is nice. It’s not like you can smell the eyeshadow after it’s on your eyes. I hadn’t even seen the new mac collection, but it looks pretty boring. Nudes and a classic red, yawn.

  3. I saw someone on YouTube (I forget who), got some of those Tom Ford eyeshadows and was super disappointed with them, saying theyโ€™re not pigmented at all. I swatched some the other weekend at Nordstrom and they were right. Theyโ€™re really sheet and you get almost nothing off them.

  4. I like you love the MAC Snowball packaging but unless there was a product I loved I wouldn’t buy it just for pretty packaging. I know brands sometimes released their top sellers in limited edition packaging which is a good idea. It’s a popular product so people would pick it up anyway ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. I tend to stay away from limited edition stuff these days… they all tend to have fabulous packaging but the products aren’t ones I can see myself using often.
