Battle of the Makeup Wipes: One Fav & One Fail

Neutrogena and Bioderma makeup remover wipes review
As handy as makeup removing wipes are, I don’t use them every day. I have a whole night-time skincare routine that I normally stick to, and to remove my makeup I use Bioderma Sensibio H2O cleansing and make-up removing water with the Quo Luxury Cotton Facial Pads (which are a dupe for the pricier Shiseido Facial Cotton). But every now and then, isn’t it so convenient to have some makeup removing wipes on hand to quickly take your makeup off and cleanse when you’re just too tired to go through your entire routine? I also really like makeup removing wipes for traveling. I had a bit of a hard time finding fragrance-free makeup wipes though, so for everyone out there like me with sensitive skin, I thought I would review the two fragrance-free makeup removing wipes that I’ve tried. One has become a re-purchased fav,  and one was a huge fail.

Neutrogena Fragrance-free makeup removing wipes

The fav

Let’s start with my fav! I absolutely love the Neutrogena fragrance-free All-in-one Make-up Removing Cleansing Wipes. These have not irritated my skin at all and don’t irritate my eyes when removing eye makeup. Some makeup removers have actually stung my eyes, but these are super gentle. They claim these “ultra-soft wipes remove all traces of make-up” and this is completely true. They are so soft and very moist. I usually only need two wipes to completely remove all my makeup and cleanse my face. My skin feels so clean after using these!

I would absolutely recommend the Neutrogena fragrance-free makeup wipes. They are $8.99 CAD for 25 wipes. Like I said, I don’t use wipes every night, partially because it is much more cost effective to buy a 500ml bottle of makeup remover and a big pack of 165 cotton pads. I keep the Neutrogena wipes in the top drawer of my bedside table and for those occasional nights when I am too exhausted to even wash my face, being able to lay in bed with some Netflix while removing my makeup is priceless!

Next up is my fragrance-free makeup removal wipes fail.

Bioderma Sensibio H2O Makeup Removing Wipes

The fail

As I mentioned, I love the Bioderma Sensibio H2O micellar water and have been using it for years. I was so excited when I spied the Sensibio H2O lingettes – basically the makeup removing wipe version of the micellar water. I was so disappointed in these. I would describe them in two words: rough and dry. The first pack I bought were so dry I actually thought I must have gotten a bum batch that had expired or weren’t sealed properly. So I even tried purchasing them a second time. The second pack was the same. There simply isn’t enough product on these wipes. I felt like I was tugging on my skin (not what you want to do!) and they feel scratchy and awful. These were a fail for me 😦

How do you feel about makeup wipes? Do you think they are too expensive, or do you think the convenience factor makes them totally worth it? I would also love to hear what your fav brand is 🙂

Thanks so much for reading!

  1. I’m not a fan of the wipes. I feel like you have to be rough with most f them to fully remove makeup. Plus I am too OCD to skip my nighttime wash!

I'd love to hear what you think! Please leave me a comment.
