I haven’t been traveling as much this year, but a few weeks ago I was in Toronto and made it to a Sephora in-person and while there, I spotted the Sephora Favorites Give Me Some Bold Lip kit. I really like these Sephora favorites type of kits that let you sample several best-sellers at a great price, but I find they usually sell out too quickly. So I was pretty pumped to get to try out the bold lip favs. I’m really into bold lip shades right now. I think it must be a fall weather thing.
I loved the packaging Sephora did on this kit and I think it would make such a nice gift to give someone. I’m totally keeping the heart-shaped box, and I liked that they had some fancy, crinkly black tissue paper inside.
Inside are six different lip products in “bold” shades. Four are sample sized and two are full sized-products – the Too Faced Peach Kiss Moisture Matte Long Wear Lipstick (which retails for $25 CAD) and the Nudestix Magnetic Matte Lip Color (which retails for $28 CAD). For $33 CAD, the Give Me Some Bold Lip kit is already an amazing bargain!
The first product I was excited to try was the Too Faced Peach Kiss Moisture Matte Long Wear Lipstick. I cannot even take how cute this lipstick is. I love the peaches engraved on the lipstick and how Too Faced really went for it with the peach theme. It’s described as a “non-drying, comfortable, and creamy matte lipstick.”
The scent is described as “peaches and sweet fig cream” but it wasn’t what I expected. I think a “peach” scent makes me think of those fuzzy peach candies you ate as a kid. The Peach Kiss lipstick doesn’t really smell like peach to me. It smells more like a creamsicle ice cream – slightly fruity and slightly vanilla. The scent is subtle and I ended up quite liking it.
The shade that comes in the kit is Drunk Dial, a vivid, berry violet shade. I loved this shade! I’m not normally a big fan of matte lipstick, but I didn’t find this lipstick drying. It was comfortable to wear and lasted all day. Here is a shot of me wearing it:
Surprisingly I hadn’t ever tried any of the Kat Von D lip products, so the Everlasting Liquid Lipstick was my first. The shade K-Dub is a full-on, intense bright fuchsia. This shade was almost too bold for me, but I liked the formula. I found you could apply it lightly for a more wearable, berry-pink and it was more of a lip stain. The full-sized retails for $24 CAD.
I was absolutely in-love with the Nudestix Magnetic Matte Lip Color shade Vino described as “homemade wine” a fabulous brownish-reddish-burgundy. I’m not sure what the magnetic part is about, but the product is described as a “three-in-one lip stain, lip color, and lip liner.” I wear liner all-over the lip as a lip colour on its own all the time so I initially really liked this. Sadly, after all day I found the Nudestix seriously drying. It killed my lips. This one did not work out for me.
Another fail for me was the Tarte Tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint in Wannabe. This formula was nice but the completely opaque, matte, dark chocolate brown was not a flattering shade. I would be curious to try out some of the other shades though. These retail for $24 CAD for the full-sized.
I didn’t realize when I bought it that the mini Bite Amuse Bouche Lipstick was in the shade Liquorice. I already own the full-size of this shade! You can see my review and pics if you’d like more details. I really enjoy the Bite lipsticks, and am happy to have a baby-sized version of this shade to fit in my smaller purses or for traveling 🙂
The other product I quite liked from this lip kit was the BareMinerals Statement Matte Liquid Lipcolor. It reminded me of the Smashbox Always On Matte Liquid Lipsticks. The matte formula is light and non-drying. The shade VIP turned out to be more wearable than I expected. More of a coral than a true crimson, I found I could apply this lightly for a more lip-staining effect, or apply it more opaquely for a bolder look. Topping it with a little lip balm didn’t disturb the colour and kept my lips from feeling too dry as well. The full-sized BareMinerals Statement Matte Liquid Lipcolor retails for $23 CAD.
Here are all six bold lip shades swatched:
The Sephora Favorites Give Me Some Bold Lip Kit is no longer available on the Sephora Canada site, but you might be able to, like I did, find some still in stock in-store. The Sephora Favorites Give Me Some Nude Lip Kit is available and I think it would be a great kit too with a lot of value for the price, and it would also make a perfect xmas gift for any makeup lovers on your list. I’ve added it to my wishlist 🙂
Thanks so much for reading!
