MAC Work it Out Collection

MAC Work It Out collection

Love the 80s-inspired packaging!

I love when MAC comes out with a new LE collection. I always check it out, although I don’t necessarily always order anything. There was just something about the Work it Out collection that was calling my name. I think, primarily, it was all of the lustre finish lipsticks (my fav!), but then there were just so many other cool new things I wanted to try. I also absolutely love this packaging that is a little bit 80s but also a little bit retro 1950s/1960s too. Black and white stars and checkerboards combined with bright, neon pinks, oranges, blues and greens!? Swoon. The only disappointing thing is that inside the amazing packaging, the actual makeup products have the classic black MAC packaging; only the cardboard containers have the super cool Work it Out designs. I just love the packaging so much, I wish they had done the actual makeup in these patterns and colours too.

When I first looked at the Work it Out collection online, one of the lip products that immediately caught my eye was the Crystal Glaze Gloss. A MAC lippie in a cute little pot? Sign me up! It was described as “an ultra-moisturizing tinted gloss in a jar that transforms any lip colour with a glossy shine.” There are six shades, and I chose Nice Cheeks, a “soft peach” that looked more pinky-brown.

This lip gloss smells heavenly, like butterscotchey-vanilla deliciousness, and is so moisturizing. The shade, Nice Cheeks, doesn’t really have any colour pay-off, but it is super glossy. I have been using it mainly as a lip balm, which I am generally obsessed with. I’m not sure if the other shades would show up more? If you are looking for a pigment-packed gloss, this might not be it, but if you are a lip balm lover like I am, this is a really nice one.

Speaking of lippie, the Work it Out collection featured three lustre finish lipsticks! I passed on Bi-Ceptual, a “nude beige” that looked very light, because I’m generally just too pale to pull off those shades. I picked up Testosterone, a “mid-tone rose”, and Muscu-linity, a “soft brown.” These are two beautiful lipsticks! I have collected most of the lustres in the permanent line, so I was really excited to be able to add more lustres to my MAC lipstick stash.

Another interesting item in the Work it Out collection was SIXTEEN different coloured mascaras! I have never tried coloured mascara before, but I think the sheer number of shades available got me curious, and scrolling though the website, I was particularly drawn to the rich plum purple shade, Well-toned.

The mascaras are MAC’s In Extreme Dimension, that claim to create “extreme volume and curl” and have the new synthetic rubbery wand with short bristles.

I thought the deep purple would work well as a mascara, still giving a dramatic effect, and might also bring out the green in my eyes. It turns out I quite like the formula of the In Extreme Dimension Mascara. It gives my lashes a lengthening, feathery effect. The dark hue it similar to a black mascara, but just a little bit, subtly, different. I am loving this purple mascara!

Finally, the last item in the Work it Out collection that I could not resist, was the Prep+Prime Fix+ in Coconut!

MAC Prep+Prime Fix+ Coconut

Coconut scented Fix+

I always have a mini-sized Fix+ in my purse and had just recently run out. I really like this spray for refreshing my makeup later in the day, or refreshing my skin if it feels dry in winter. I am obsessed with coconut so I had to try the coconut Fix+. I have to say, I was slightly disappointed with the scent. It isn’t quite coconut enough for me. It still has the Fix+ scent but with a little coconut added. I like it, but it wasn’t exactly what I expected. I don’t find my skin reacts to MAC Fix+, so I’m hoping I won’t have any sort of negative reaction to the coconut version. So far, so good.

I am pretty happy with the items I picked up from the MAC Work it Out collection. I’m such a MAC junkie. What do you think, did any of the things in this collection appeal to you? Do you get tempted by LE collections?

MAC Crystal Glaze Gloss: $26 CAD
MAC Lustre Lipstick: $21 CAD
MAC In Extreme Dimension Mascara: $24 CAD

Thanks so much for reading!

    • Oh I’m so sorry that happened to you. I know there is a lot of counterfeit makeup out there, and especially counterfeit MAC, and misprinted/smudged printing is suspicious. Check out MAC’s webpage on “counterfeit education” http://www.maccosmetics.ca/counterfeit-education. They say to use their “Find a Store” to see if a store is actually an authorized vendor. In Canada, I don’t know of any pharmacies that carry MAC. I always buy directly from the MAC site (avoid Amazon!) to make sure I’m not getting fake makeup. I hate to think what ingredients might be in fake makeup!

  2. Oooh I love lip balm, I’m going to have to check out that Crystal Glaze gloss. Totally want to try Fix + too – I’ve heard such good things about it although that’s disappointing that it’s not coconuty-enough.

  3. That’s kind of disappointing the packaging is only fun on the box and not the product. I’m curious to smell that coconut fix +! xo J

  4. What a fun collection! The lipstick shade in Muscu-linity looks like an everyday type of shade. Too bad the tubes themselves weren’t in the special packaging – just the outer box.
