Its that time of year again! Its January, and I love hearing about other people’s favs from the past year. This will be my 3rd yearly favourites post. I enjoy going through my makeup and thinking about which things I reached for the most in 2016. Some of my 2014 favs and 2015 favs have sneaked in again, plus I’ve got some all new favourites.
Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation: Again this year, this was the only foundation I used. Its the one foundation I’ve found that is light enough for my very fair skin and doesn’t oxidize or shift colour. Its water-based, agrees with my skin, and looks natural. This was also a 2014 and 2015 favourite. If you’re looking for a really good high-end foundation that is worth the price, I would recommend trying the MUFE Ultra HD if you haven’t already.
The Beauty Blender: Totally love this little guy. My recent experiment with the silicone makeup applicator reinforced just how much I love my beauty blender. I picked up a “nude” one in 2016 and I really like this shade. I find it doesn’t look as dirty as the original pink, probably because the nude sponge is the same shade as foundation and concealer.
MAC Mineralized Skinfinish in Lightscapade: In 2016, I finally found a highlighter I liked that works on fair skin!
Smashbox X-Rated Mascara: My favourite mascara, Guerlain Maxi-Lash, was bumped out of the 2016 favs by the new Smashbox X-Rated Mascara. I loved this super black, dramatic, volumizing mascara!
Too Faced Love Flush Long-Lasting 16-Hour Blush in Baby Love: This was one of my most used blushes in 2016. Getting the award for most adorable design and packaging of all time, I have used this blush so much I have tragically worn off all of the cute embossing. Baby Love is a subtle, warm-toned pinky-nude blush, that on my fair, cool-toned skin shows up as a light, warm pink with some plum undertones. It isn’t completely matte, but just has a hint of shimmer.
NARS Single Eye Shadow in Bali: In 2016, I found my perfect brow powder. Bali is described as a “neutral taupe.” It is a very cool-toned, matte, deep grey-brown that ended up working incredibly well as a brow powder. Its the perfect shade for my dark brows and hair colour. I find using an eye shadow with my Real Techniques angled brow brush the quickest way to do my brows.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Ebony: 2016 was an eventful year for my eyebrows! I also tried my very first brow pencil. The Sephora sa selected this one for me. There is one darker shade, Granite, but even for me, Ebony seems plenty dark so I’m glad I went with the shade she recommended. I like that the retractable pencil is so small so you can get fine little strokes. I have to really take the time to comb it through with a spoolie for it to look natural and not like sharpie brows. I was kind of annoyed that the spoolie end of my Brow Wiz pencil broke shortly after I bought it (has this happened to anyone else?) but I still quite liked the product. I have just used it up and will definitely repurchase.
MAC Shale Eye Shadow: I have a lot of MAC eye shadows, but one of my favourite shadows this year that I wore a lot was Shale. The MAC description is “mauve-plum with subtle shimmer”, but personally I feel like the purple is more of an undertone in this shadow. Temptalia also describes it as a “cool taupe.” On me, its a great neutral with a hint of purple. Its also, according to Pixiwoo, most likely to be a shade favoured by Kate Middleton! Who doesn’t want to look like a Duchess 🙂
Make Up For Ever Artist Shadow Eyeshadow in S-556 Taupe Gray (Satin): I have only tried two of the Make Up For Ever shadows but I love them and want to get more shades (and there are so many to choose from!). They remind me of MAC shadows. In 2016, I hit pan on satin finish S-556 Taupe Gray. This shade is so beautiful, so easy to blend and super long-wearing.
LORAC Pro Palette: When I had to pick the eye shadow palette I used the most in 2016, it was definitely my LORAC Pro Palette. I was particularly obsessed with the shade Gold which I wore over Maybelline’s Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze for the prettiest combo.
MAC Spice it Up! Lipstick (Lustre): Most worn lipstick of 2016? Without a doubt, MAC Spice it Up! a perfect wearable red.
Bite Beauty Maple Agave Lip Mask: Created exclusively for Canada, this delicious lip balm is infused with real Canadian maple syrup and smells and tastes amazing! I have loved using this all year ❤
Thats all for my 2016 makeup favourites. Happy 2017! I’m looking forward to discovering more favourites this year. I’d love to hear what some of your favs were this past year! Please leave me a comment.
