Revlon Ultra Volume Mascara

Revlon Ultra Volume Mascara
Earlier this year, Revlon replaced all of their mascaras with five brand new mascaras. I hadn’t tried many Revlon mascaras, except for the Bold Lacquer Length & Volume Mascara which I’d really loved. I’m typically more of a L’Oreal mascara girl when it comes to drugstore mascaras.

This new line was pretty hard to miss (and equally hard to resist) with its eye-catching packaging that reminded me of the bright colourful markers that always tempt me at art supply stores. I really like how each cap is a different colour. They’re so shiny!

Like as array of colourful markers!

I decided to try the pink one, which is the “Ultra Volume” in Blackest Black. What girl doesn’t like pink and volumized lashes amirite? The Ultra Volume promises its “conditioning, clump-free formula plumps lashes”, and its “Lash Plumping Brush” has triple grooves and short and long bristles to maximize volume and eliminate clumps. Some of the other mascaras in the new collection are fiber mascaras, but as far as I can tell, the Ultra Volume is not. Here’s what the wand looks like:

The formula was one of those that changes quite dramatically once its opened and you use it a few times. The first time I used it I absolutely hated it. It was very thin and wet and basically stuck my lashes together to give me that three or four spiky lashes look that I’m not a fan of. I knew I was planning to re-order my fav Guerlain Maxi Lash during the Sephora fall sale, so I decided to say what the heck and use the Ultra Volume in the meantime. To my surprise, after a few days, the consistency improved, and after a week or so, it was working great at separating and volumizing and creating a nice effect. I do find some mascaras get better after you use them for a little while.

The downside of this mascara was that it did flake off during the day and I would get those little black flecks under my eyes or the top of my cheeks. I find this is my biggest issue with drugstore mascaras – they don’t wear as well and tend to flake and smudge more than higher-end mascaras in my experience. I would say I liked the Revlon Ultra Volume Mascara, but I didn’t love it. I haven’t tried any of the others but I am seeing really great reviews for the Ultimate All-in-One (with the red cap). They retail in Canada for $11.99 CAD.

Have you tried any of the new Revlon mascaras? Have a favourite?

Thanks so much for reading!

  1. Cover Girl Super Sizer is an awesome drugstore mascara. I haven’t tried any Revlon mascaras.

  3. I use to use L’Oreal mascara all the time also. I’ve fallen in love with Roller Lash by Benefit. A bit pricey, but it wears really well and does not flake off.
