You won’t believe what happened to these NYX blushes!

NYX High Definition blushes in Nude 'Tude, Soft Spoken, Amber and Intuition

How the blushes looked a year ago

About a year ago, I ordered some of the (new at the time) NYX High Definition Blushes. I used the (also new at the time) NYX Canada website and sadly you can read about my disastrous shipping/customer service experience with the site if you’d like. I cannot recommend ordering from nyxcosmetics.ca. Despite the experience, I did quite like the High Definition Blushes and did a full review and a comparison to the old NYX blushes, which I really loved, in a December 2015 post. I hadn’t been using them very much lately, but I had recently made a resolution to cycle through my rather large blush collection and use them all more, after hitting pan on a MAC blush I’ve been obsessed with. I pulled out my NYX High Definition Blush in Nude ‘tude, and right away noticed that the blush had significantly faded, and in several spots the colour had shifted to an almost pale yellow!

I decided to check the others, and I was shocked when I opened Amber. The center of Amber had also significantly faded and changed colour.

This colour shift in this blush was so pronounced, I was able to swatch the blush from the center next to some blush from the corner, and they looked like two different shades! The blush in the center had shifted to a much more orangey tone.

Soft Spoken was also similarly faded and had shifted colour to a more yellow-orange in certain spots.

Now, I know some people might say, well they are a year old, but most of the blushes in my collection are way older than that, and I have never seen this happen to any other blushes before. In my opinion, one year isn’t exactly a ripe old age for a powder blush. Based on the way Amber faded, in a very distinct circular shape, I suppose it could be from being exposed to the light through the similarly shaped, clear plastic in the lid, but I also have many blushes, like the old NYX blushes, MAC, LORAC, and others that have clear lids, and I have never seen anything like this. I keep all my blushes in my Beauty Cube Acrylic Lucite Makeup Organizer so some light might get in, but it is not in direct sunlight and is in a room that is north facing that doesn’t get a ton of natural light anyway. Oddly enough, one of the NYX High Definition Blushes, Intuition, was just fine.

I am really disappointed in NYX. It certainly doesn’t make me want to order any more of the High Definition Blushes 😦

Has anyone ever had this happen to a blush or other product? I am VERY curious to know. Some Google searching did not turn up any similar stories. I would love to hear any theories on how these three NYX blushes might have so dramatically faded and colour shifted.

Thanks so much for reading!
Love,

It might really be the light, seeing how perfectly round the shape of the fading is. I mean you might not be able to check it now, since you’ve thrown them out, but looking at the picture, the circle on the blush might fall exactly in line with the transparent circular “window” from the top part of the container. If it really is, then it’s pretty possible that it really is the light…

    • It might have been. One of the blushes seemed to be particularly circular, like you noticed. Although on others its was more like blotches in several areas. In any case, I have been extra careful to keep all my makeup away from any sunlight ever since 🙂

Looks like fungal contamination. Probably you should throw out these blushes, and clean all brushes you use.

  4. Wow weird. I have Amber & Taupe from that line. Both are around 1.5 years old and that hasn’t happened to mine.

  5. I remember reading about the horrible experience you had with NYX last year! And now this! I’ve never seen anything like this – hopefully someone can shed some life on what happened to them for you!
