Why I Went Back to the Clarisonic

Clarisonic Mia 2

The Clarisonic Mia 2 came with a travel case and a new, more compact charger

In June, I did a review of the Foreo LUNA silicone facial cleaning brush. My Clarisonic Mia that I’d had for nine years had suddenly died and I was on the fence about repurchasing a Clarisonic. I decided to try the Foreo LUNA for Sensitive/Normal Skin instead, mainly because it promised to be gentler and because of its dual-sided functions: You use it for one minute for cleansing, then flip it over and use it for one minute on the anti-aging setting with your moisturizer or serum.

Foreo Luna for Sensitive/Normal Skin

My Foreo Luna for Sensitive/Normal Skin

Initially I really loved the Foreo LUNA, and especially noticed a reduction in dryness. I am normally dry around my nose and cheeks and often get flakiness and dry patches. The LUNA really helped with that. I think it was the second step which helps your moisturizer penetrate and work more effectively. Unfortunately, after using it for a couple of months, I was experiencing a lot of clogged pores and breakouts. Although I loved how gentle the Foreo LUNA is and how quick it is to use, I think for my acne-prone skin it just wasn’t able to deliver the same deep cleansing as the Clarisonic. So in August, I decided to go back to the Clarisonic and purchased the Mia 2 Special Edition in Pearl Pink from Sephora, that came with the Radiance brush head ($199 CAD).

I am loving the Clarisonic all over again! I am so glad I decided to get another one. I have definitely noticed an improvement in my skin. I am still using my LUNA Foreo, but now I just use the second-step on the anti-aging setting after I apply my moisturizer and just concentrate on my dryer areas like around my eyes, nose and cheeks (I know that’s a pretty high-maintenance skincare routine!). I also really like the Clarisonic’s new charger, which is smaller and magnetically attaches to the device. It is much more travel-friendly than my old charger which was a large stand that you placed the Clarisonic in. Before, I normally used the Sensitive brush head, but I think when I get a replacement head, I will try the new Luxe Facial Brush Head Cashmere Cleanse which is supposed to be extremely gentle.

If you’re curious to see how the Foreo LUNA compares to the Clarisonic, please checkout my review of the LUNA. If you have very sensitive or dry skin and you don’t have a lot of problems with serious breakouts, I still think the LUNA is a great choice for gentle exfoliation and to give your skin a softer, smoother texture. Like I said I’m still using the anti-aging setting to help my moisturizer deeply penetrate and do its job. But if you’re like me and really require a deep pore cleanse, then stick with the Clarisonic.

I hope this review helped you out if you are trying to decide which skin care device to go with! Please let me know your thoughts on the Clarisonic, I’d love to hear from you.

Thanks so much for reading!

  2. It’s great to read that one’s opinion can change over time, with prolong usage of a product. I’ve not used either Clarisonic or Foreo – my skin doesn’t do well with manual exfoliation. Thanks for providing this update! 🙂
