More of my Sephora VIB Sale Purchases

Sephora VIB sale haul: eyeshadows
At the Sephora spring sale, I picked up some Bite Beauty lip products (you can see my post about those here) and I also wanted to test out a NARS Single Eye Shadow ($31 CAD), which I had never tried before. While cruising the site, I also noticed the mini Smashbox Photo Matte Eyes Travel Palette. I had recently tried out the Smashbox Full Exposure palette and particularly loved the matte eye shadow shades in it. I actually wrote in my review, “I would definitely like to try more of the Smashbox matte shadows, but their palettes and trios all seem to have a similar mix of shimmers and mattes. Fingers crossed they come out with an all matte palette!” It seems my makeup prayers were answered! So understandably, I was excited to try out the all-matte Smashbox palette.

The Smashbox Photo Matte Eyes Travel Palette ($28 CAD) has “eight versatile matte shades, including stay-put shadows that double as liner to brow powders and go on as shadows.” I have actually used the shade Canyon as a brow powder. Just like the matte shades in the Smashbox Full Exposure palette, these are creamy and blendable and stay on all day without creasing. I especially love Grounded (a natural, “no-makeup” makeup shade) and Vanilla a great matte brow bone shade.

I’m really enjoying this palette, and I love the travel size. Its great to find a versatile matte palette that is also small and sturdy enough to pop in a travel bag. Speaking of mini eye shadows…I could not believe how mini the NARS Single Eye Shadows are until my Bali arrived. This may be the cutest eye shadow packaging ever. It was like someone hit a NARS blush with a shrink ray. It even has its own tiny mirror.

Bali is described as a “neutral taupe.” It is a very cool-toned, deep grey-brown. I do like it as an eye shadow, but it shows up very dark and dramatic on me. This shade would be more of an evening look for me. But, unexpectedly, it ended up working incredibly well as a brow powder. Its pretty much the perfect shade for my already dark brows and very dark hair. I have been using it in my brows daily for a few weeks now and I totally love it.NARS Single eye shadow in BaliSwatch NARS Single eye shadow in Bali
I am pretty pleased with both of my Sephora sale eye shadow finds. I’m curious to try out more of the NARS Single Eye Shadow shades, there are about 20 I think. If you have a fav, please let me know in the comments below. I’d also love to hear what you picked up in the Sephora sale. Did you love it or was it a miss?

Thanks for reading!

  2. Great picks! I have the Smashbox Full Exposure Travel Palette and found it to be okay. I think an all-matte version is a great idea. xo J

  3. Love that Smashbox palette. I’m a huge fan of matte eye shadow, and I love that the shadows double as eyebrow powders!

  4. I was tempted by that Smashbox palette. I really like their eyeshadow singles but after the bad experience I had with their Double Exposure palette, I decided to hold off. Your swatches look great though!
I love LOVE Nars eye shadows – I have a thing for their duos but they’re so pricey!

  5. I have one NARS eyeshadow single (the compact is soooo cute) but it’s in a loud turquoise shade so I haven’t tried it yet. 😀 Cool that yours turned out to work well as a brow powder!

The Smashbox palette looks perfect for travel.
