Giving Matte Lipstick Another “Whirl”

MAC Whirl lipstick
I have never been a big matte lip product girl, but MAC’s Whirl lip pencil is one of my favs. Its the perfect warm, pinky-brown nude that you can fill your lips in with or use with all kinds of different lipstick shades. When I heard that MAC was coming out with a lipstick version of Whirl lip pencil, I was intrigued…until I learned that it would be a matte finish lipstick. Would my love for Whirl be enough to overcome my general dislike of matte lipsticks?

The only other matte finish I’ve tried from MAC was Please Me. It was definitely improved by the addition of the matching Please Me Lipglass, but on its own I found it drying. But Whirl lipstick is just such a perfect shade!

I decided to give the matte finish another try. I have to say I absolutely love this colour. Its a fabulous Kylie Jenner, 1990s brown – a deep, rich, reddish-undertoned brown. Its the kind of shade that is so perfect you don’t mind that the lipstick itself is a little on the dry side. I just make sure to load up my lips with lots of lip balm first, plus the upside of matte lipsticks is that they have crazy amazing staying power. I find Whirl lipstick is more brown and slightly less pink than its lip pencil counterpart. It is its own unique shade.

I don’t know if its completely converted me to the land of matte, but I am definitely in love with Whirl lipstick.

Do you have any lip liners that you wish would magically be turned into a lipstick? Laura Mercier Plumberry would be on my magical lipstick wishlist for instance. Leave me a comment below πŸ™‚

  4. I had a LancΓ΄me Le Lipstique back in the 90s that I used as a lipstick! πŸ˜€ It was so creamy – Bronzelle, I think it was. I was all about that 90s brown. Revlon Toast of New York was where it was at. Whirl looks like a great throwback shade.

  5. Oh that does look like a nice colour. I know so many people that use Whirl pencil as lipstick but it never struck me as something that would suit me even as a liner with something else. The lipstick version actually looks good though. I find I’m similar when it comes to MAC mattes but they have some glassic, no worries colours so I think it’s worth the sacrifice of suuuuuper dry lips.

  8. I have the Whirl liner and I like it. The NYX pencil in Mauve is pretty much a dupe for it. I’d love the NYX pencil in Ever or the Palladio liner in Nutmeg as lipsticks.
