I had been seeing the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder on favourites lists everywhere. My skin is on the drier side, so I don’t generally use a ton of powder, except on my chin and around my nose where I can tend to get a little shiny throughout the day. I find that my Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation doesn’t require much powdering to set and I like leaving the luminous finish. I’ve been loving the MAC Mineralized Skinfinish Natural in Light, which made my 2015 Favourites. When I ran out, I wanted something to replace it faster than I knew a MAC order would take to arrive. MAC can take three weeks or more to get to me, whereas the new Canadian Sephora shipping is crazy fast – about 2-3 days!
I’d had the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder on my Sephora Loves List and finally ordered it. I went for the 0.33 oz travel size for $27.00 CAD (VS the $46.00 full-size). I really enjoy it when higher end brands have a mini size of a product like this so you can try it out without investing in the more expensive, full-size. Plus I find it takes me a long time to go through this type of product because I use so little. I always buy the mini size Make Up For Ever HD Powder, for example, and it takes me months to go through it.
The mini size comes with the little Velour Puff. The full-size does not and its and additional $15.00 CAD. I’m not really using the powder puff though. Personally, I like to apply setting powder with a fluffy brush, so I can apply it very lightly. I also wash my face brushes after I use them so I’m not transferring oil and bacteria back onto my face (I’m prone to breakouts). I’m not sure how well this puff would stand up to being washed regularly.
The Laura Mercier translucent setting powder is described as “an extremely lightweight, silky, sheer setting powder that leaves skin with a flawless finish. Infused with the finest French ‘cashmere talc,’ this non-dusty, non-drying translucent powder sets makeup and creates a flawless finish. A unique light-reflecting ingredient creates a soft-focus appearance that smoothes away fine lines and imperfections as it sets your makeup. The translucent shade looks and feels natural on all skintones, and creates a flawless finish. This oil-free, noncomedogenic product looks natural, never caking or creasing.”
I can see why so many people like this powder. It looks so natural! Its not cakey at all and doesn’t look overly matte. It leaves that luminous finish that the MUFE HD foundation gives you. You hardly even see the powder. Although it appears to have some colour to it in the container, on my (very fair) skin it really is transparent. Best of all, it actually helps keep my makeup from breaking down or getting shiny around my chin and nose. The first day I wore it, I went to touch up in the afternoon and when I looked in the mirror I realized I didn’t have to! My makeup still looked like it did when I applied it. What more could you want? 🙂
I was already a fan of the Laura Mercier Secret Concealer, one of my most repurchased products. I am dying to try the Secret Brightening Powder now! If you’ve tried it, let me know what you think.
