Too Faced La Creme Lipstick Review

Too Faced La Creme Lipstick in Pink Chocolate
When I was visiting my sister in Halifax recently, she had gotten a new lipstick, the Too Faced La Creme Color Drenched Lipstick in the shade Sweet Maple, a very 1990s-brown shade, and she loved it. I had never tried any of the Too Faced lippies before, and it looked so pretty! I wanted one of my own. I swatched some of the shades in Sephora, and picked the shade Pink Chocolate, a “berry brown.” I was a little disappointed that they didn’t carry the full shade selection in-store, at least at the location I went to. They only had 12 of the 24 shades available on the Sephora website.

Pink Chocolate

Pink Chocolate looks more pinky-plum in the tube, but on me its more of a berry red with warm brown undertones. Very wearable, and it works well with my fair, cool toned skin.

I love a moisturizing lipstick, and the La Creme feels like applying a lip balm. Its thick, rich and creamy and slightly glossy. That’s the type of finish I am really into, so I’m loving this. It is surprisingly pigmented too for this type of formula. I can blot it for a more subtle look, or apply a couple of coats and it can look quite vampy and dramatic. I would say that it isn’t the most long-wearing if that’s a deal breaker for you. I prefer a balmier, moisturizing type of lipstick and that typically means having to reapply throughout the day so I don’t mind.

The only downside is that it is scented, and I’m kind of “meh” about the scent. My sister’s lipstick smelled more like chocolate. Mine has an almost floral scent. I don’t know if the different shades have different scents? Not sure what’s going on with that. If you have one of the La Creme lipsticks in another shade, please let me know what the scent is like; I’m super curious!

The Too Faced La Creme Color Drenched Lipsticks are $26.00 CAD. I would definitely like to try some of the other shades, like Spice Spice BabyΒ  (“pinky brown”), and Ursula (“shimmering deep plum”).

I know that different shades have different ingredients. I love the formula on these also but I don’t appreciate the scent. I have it in Spice Spice Baby and it has some sort of herbal tea sort of scent. Sorry, I’m not good at describing scents. Spice Spice Baby shares the same ingredients as Coral Fire, Honey Bear, I Want Candy and Marshmallow Bunny. Sweet Maples shares the same ingredients as Fuchsia Shock, Naked Dolly, Nude Beach and Razzle Dazzle Rose. Not sure about Pink Chocolate though.

  2. That looks really pretty! I am not a fan of the sheerer, balmier lipsticks, though, so I gotta pass.

  3. This is such a pretty shade! This is the kind of consistency that I like as well. I’ll take reapplying over discomfort any day.
I have two of these and they both have a very faint slightly lemony scent and the fragrance actually really dries my lips out.

  4. You’d think a shade named Pink Chocolate would have a chocolate scent? Weird. This is the kind of formula I’d like those – I love a good balmy lipstick and this shade looks super wearable!

I'd love to hear what you think! Please leave me a comment.
