Smashbox Full Exposure Travel Palette: 8 Mini Shadows To Go

Smashbox Full Exposure Travel Palette

A travel-size palette of eight, universal neutral shadows

Is it just me or do all of the adorable mini versions of products that Sephora strategically lines the checkout with get you every time? Waiting in the line-up, I couldn’t resist this totally cute miniature version of the Smashbox Full Exposure Palette. The full-sized palette has 14 neutral shades (each one is 0.035 oz) for $62.00 CAD. The Smashbox Full Exposure Travel Palette has 8 of the original shadows in smaller, 0.026 oz, for only $28.00 CAD.

I was really drawn to how sleek and compact this palette is. I’m always on the lookout for portable eyeshadow palettes that I can tuck into a carry-on and not have to worry too much about them shattering; I’m not going to pack my MAC Pro Palette x 15 when flying Air Canada! This travel palette is really thin and is smaller than my iPhone.

So tiny!

The palette is advertised as “eight must-have neutrals in one portable palette.” Four of the shades are shimmer and four are matte. Overall they tend to be more on the cool side.

Top L-R: Chocolate Brown/Golden Pearl, Soft Gold/Golden Silver Pearl, Light Tan/Golden Silver Pearl, Mid-Tone Slate/Silver Pearl. Bottom L-R: Matte Warm Chocolate Brown, Soft Matte Mid-tone Tan, Creamy Matte Beige, Ashy Dark Brown

This is my first time trying Smashbox eye shadows. I love the four matte shades! The mattes are very creamy and blendable, and they stay on all day without creasing. I especially like the shade Creamy Matte Beige, very similar to MAC’s Brule and a perfect matte brow-bone highlight and/or blending out shade. Its hard to find a palette that includes a shade like this.

The shimmers on the other hand…I’m not loving. They swatched ok with my finger, but trying to get these on my lid with a brush proved much trickier. Several of the reviews on the Sephora site also mention this and say that you have to apply them with your finger to get any colour, which I’m not really into doing. I found them way too glittery, the colors didn’t show up well at all, and I ended up with a bunch of fall-out under my eyes.

So half of this palette was a hit, and half was a miss. I will continue to use the matte shades. I think the travel palette was a good way to try out the Smashbox shadows at a great price. I would definitely like to try more of the Smashbox matte shadows, but their palettes and trios all seem to have a similar mix of shimmers and mattes. Fingers crossed they come out with an all matte palette!

I’m still in search of the perfect travel palette.

Have you tried the Smashbox shadows? Let me know what you think of them.

  2. The minis in the checkout line always get to me too! They are just so cute, and this one is no exception:) I really like the mattes as well– they blend out wonderfully. Great review girl!

  3. I was debating between the Full Exposure and the Double Exposure and the one reason I went with the Double version was due to the shimmers in this one. They look really flaky and not refined looking when I tested it in the store. I really do love Smashbox eye shadows – they need more love online! I’m glad you like the mattes though – 50% isn’t terrible, right?

  4. I got this palette about 6 months ago and it is the only one I take when I travel! It is so small and fits perfectly into make travel bag, and has enough colors to get me the look I want πŸ™‚

  5. I don’t know why but this looks much more attractive than the full size.
