I’m back with the 17th and final review in my High-end Lipstick Review series! I have been testing out and comparing high-end lipsticks for just over a year now. You can check out my original post for a full explanation. As promised, I will be giving away a lipstick from the brand that scores the highest number of “Duchess Points” to a subscriber in a shade of their choice. Keep reading to see which brand will be deemed most splurge-worthy and for details about how to enter the giveaway.
The last high-end lipstick I’m reviewing is from Charlotte Tilbury. When British celebrity makeup artist and YouTube star, Charlotte Tilbury, launched her own makeup line in 2013, makeup fans everywhere seemed to freak out. Charlotte Tilbury became available to order in Canada from their Canadian website this year. I was really pumped to try out her raved about K.I.S.S.I.N.G. Fallen from the Lipstick Tree lipstick. I paid $42.94 CAD for the lipstick. Taxes and duties on the order came to $8.45 CAD (I also ordered the Lip Cheat) and I received free shipping because of a promotion on the site.
Here’s how CT describes the lipstick, “Enriched with a breakthrough, secret ingredient, the Lipstick Tree, an anti-oxidant that naturally protects lips from UV damage and external pollution leaving them cashmere soft and irresistible. Blended with special waxes and clever light-diffusing pigments for pert, full-bodied, ultra-brilliant lips that ensure you leave a lasting impression!”
Available in 10 shades, the nudes seemed to be the most talked about. After pouring over swatches online, I decided to try Penelope Pink, a fleshy, pinky nude (although it was a tough choice between that and Bitch Perfect).
Although CT claims that all of the shades were “made to suit any skin tone”, I was disappointed with Penelope Pink. The shade does not really suit me. Its ok, but I have several other nudes that look much more flattering on cool, fair skin.
The CT packaging is beautiful. The fluted rose-gold tube is similar to the Estee Lauder Signature Hydra Lustre Lipstick. It definitely feels very high-end and has a vintage glamour feel to it. 3/3 Duchess Points
After hearing so much about the brand and so many rave reviews, I was a bit disappointed by the formula of the K.I.S.S.I.N.G. lipstick. It was the type of lipstick that tends to settle into any little lines in my lips. I could get it to look ok but it took a bit of fussing with. I would describe the feel of the lipstick as “waxy”. CT claims they contain “a special blend of waxes”. I could definitely tell. 2/3 Duchess Points
I couldn’t fault the CT lipstick on wear. It wore very well, especially for a light nude shade. It was also comfortable on the lips throughout the day. 3/3 Duchess Points
I loved the light vanilla scent of the CT lipstick. It was similar to a MAC lipstick. Yummy and luxurious! 3/3 Duchess Points
I was weary of the Lipstick Tree ingredient, a “tropical plant originating from America”, especially after my allergic reaction to the Hourglass lipstick. But, I had no problem with the CT lipstick.
Due to the formula, I like the CT lipstick less than MAC, so I had to deduct a Duchess Point.
Since I would have to order it online, there would also be shipping charges on top of that. I have had this lipstick for a few months now, and I just never reach for it. I think the formula is not my favourite and the shade wasn’t the best pick for me. I find myself not very interested in spending close to $50 on another shade. I just didn’t love the CT lipstick. -1 Duchess Point
Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G. Lipstick Total:
9/14 Duchess Points
And the Winner is…?
So which high-end lipstick scored the most Duchess Points out of the 17 brands I reviewed? It was Chanel with 13 out of 14 points.
I will be giving away a Chanel lipstick to a subscriber. I reviewed the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine for this series, but I’m also a huge fan of the Rouge Coco Hydrating Creme and the Rouge Allure Luminous Intense. The winner can pick the formula and the shade! The only rule is it has to be available here. I can only get Chanel makeup online from The Bay.
