How to get Super Strong Nails Naturally

how to strengthen nails
I’d been noticing that my nails have been getting crazy strong. I mean really noticeably hard and growing so quickly that every time I look at them I’m like, yikes! I need to trim these puppies. I hadn’t been doing anything specific to them, so I started to contemplate why I suddenly had wolverine-like talons. The only thing I can think of that I have been doing differently is that I am taking two kinds of supplements since I started my gym routine in the summer. I truly believe they have been contributing to my nail strength.

The first thing my trainer suggested was to get lots of protein and recommended whey isolate. I love a morning smoothie, and have been adding whey isolate powder to them for months now. I am lactose intolerant, but pure whey isolate has very little to no lactose and I don’t have any trouble with it. I pick up the unflavoured, unsweetened kind.

The other thing my trainer recommended was creatine. Creatine has been shown to benefit bone density and enhance muscle strength. I decided on  Purple K Creatine in capsule form to avoid the side effects of the powdered creatine that you mix with water, like bloating and other digestive issues.

I think the unintended, surprise side-effect/benefit of my new fitness regime is that my nails are super healthy! I have read in numerous places that protein is important for healthy nails, and I am definitely convinced. What do you think?

  1. Yeah, when I was taking hemp protein regularly, they’d be stronger. And biotin helps! Now they’re awesome, I think it’s the combined regimen of homemade cuticle oil, finding a good strengthener and voila. Even the life of a nail blogger = acetone, doesn’t faze my claws 😉

  2. I take biotin and hair & nail supplements (from Nature’s Bounty) during the winter months especially – my hair tends to fall out more and my nails more brittle. I’ve noticed they help!

  3. love this post, great tips and advice. thank you!
