Irresistible Me Hair Extensions Review

Irresistible Me Hair Extentions
I have been trying to grow my hair longer, but I find it difficult to keep my hair long since I am coluring it. Once past shoulder-length, the ends just get too dry and damaged. I had been contemplating removable hair extensions for a while now. I don’t want the more permanent type you sew or glue in because I would be too nervous about damaging my natural hair. It was perfect timing when Irresistible Me reached out to me and offered to let me try their Remy Clip-in Extensions for free.

The Irresistible Me extensions are made of 100% human Remy hair and can be styled, cut, coloured, curled, straightened and washed like your own hair. Being new to the world of extensions I wasn’t familiar with the term “Remy”. According to Irresistible Me:

Remy Hair is considered to be the finest quality of human hair because it’s the hair collected from the donor’s head and preserved to ensure all the cuticles are healthy, living, and facing in the natural growing direction. This eliminates tangling problems commonly found in non-Remy or low quality hair. Preserving the hairs’ cuticles intact and aligning them the same way makes the hair extensions look completely natural. Remy hair is only lightly processed.”

I selected the Silky Touch extensions in 24 inches (the longest available length). My hair is very thick, so I went with the 200g extensions recommended for thicker hair. There are 11 shades to choose from. After watching this YouTube video, I selected the shade Silky Jet Black (#1). I was so excited when they arrived! The packaging is very cute and the extensions are safely inside a sealed, plastic waterproof bag.

Lovely packaging and presentation

What I thought was genius, is that there is a separate compartment that contains a single hair extension. You are instructed to “open this side first” so you can decide if the length and shade is what you wanted before you open the full set. If you’re not happy with your selection, you can return it if you haven’t broken the Quality & Hygiene seal on the other side of the packaging.

Silky Jet Black (#1) was a perfect match for my hair colour

If you decide to keep them, you can remove the seal and open them

I was very happy with the shade Silky Jet Black, which was an excellent match for my hair colour. I was also immediately surprised by how soft and natural the extensions felt. They felt exactly like my own hair. My only other experience with hair extensions was with inexpensive synthetic hair (which I used for an Amy Winehouse Halloween look). It was absolutely awful! I can definitely see why paying more for real human hair is totally worth it.

Each extension is held in place with little clips that snap open and closed

You receive 10 hair extensions or “wefts”, which I’ve learned they are referred to: one 4-clip weft, two 3-clip wefts, five 2-clip wefts, and two 1-clip wefts. You can choose to add as few or as many wefts to your hair as you like.

I definitely needed to watch a few tutorials before attempting to put in the extensions. I found MissLeslee229’s HOW TO: APPLY HAIR EXTENSIONS!!! the most helpful. As a hair extension newbie, it took a little practice, but I got the hang of it fairly quickly. It was actually much easier and much quicker to put them in than I expected, and they are also easy to remove. I have very tangley hair and was initially worried that I’d have a difficult time removing the clips, but that wasn’t the case. As soon as you un-clip them they come right out.

So…here is the before and after…

My hair is not layered at all, so I found it helpful to pin some of my hair back in a half-up do in order to help my own hair blend in better with the extensions. I think layered cuts would work particularly well with extensions. Once you clip these in place, they are completely, securely attached to your own hair. I didn’t have to worry at all about them coming out. They are also fairly comfortable. I don’t know if I could wear these all day long, everyday, as they add extra weight to your hair, and after several hours I do start to look forward to  removing them. I think they take a little getting used to. Like I said, I’m a hair extension newbie! However for going out and for events where you want to add some drama, some length or volume, I think these are perfect! I am looking forward to trying out some more styles and up-dos with these.

The Irresistible Me site ships to Canada (and to every country in the world). The Silky Touch 200g, 24 inch extensions are $219 USD. The longer the length and the thicker the weight, the higher the price. The shortest length (14 inches) and weight (100g) are only $79 USD. So the price depends on how much hair you want/need. They also offer free, international shipping over $150.

If you have any questions please feel free to leave me a comment!

Finally a Post About a Book!

Retro Makeup: Techniques for Applying the Vintage LookI haven’t posted at all this week. It’s been a crazy, stressful and sad week for me. I had to make the very difficult decision to have my cat, Miss Vivien Leigh, put down. As any of you who have had to part with a pet know, its a terrible thing to have to do. If that wasn’t all bad enough, I also had my hot water tank give up and leak all over my basement. I had to have it replaced and then spend several days mopping and cleaning my basement. I’ve been feeling a bit overwhelmed.

A happy thing that happened this past week though, was a friend of mine picked up a very thoughtful present for me while she was on vacation. She was in a super cool store in Toronto, Loveless Boutique, and found this book, Retro Makeup: Techniques for Applying the Vintage Look. I had seen this book online (it looked amazing!) and was so happy that when she saw it, she thought of me. It definitely cheered me up.

Its really beautiful and filled with the makeup styles, colours and techniques of the 1920s, 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s. Very cool! I feel inspired to try out some of the retro makeup looks.

I have some good posts coming up soon and hope to be posting more often than I have been this week. As always, I really appreciate you all for reading.

Thanks for reading!

A new way to order makeup online in Canada!

Shoppers Drug Mart has launched a new website, www.beautyboutique.ca, where you can order makeup and skincare products and earn Optimum points (pretty much the best rewards program of all time). I was curious to see how it differs from Murale, also owned by Shoppers Drug Mart. There seem to be two big differences:
1. The Beauty Boutique site offers free shipping over $75 CAD, and
2. you can redeem your Optimum points online! which you cannot do on the Murale site.

Also, right now you can get 8000 bonus Optimum points (until August 14) on the Beauty Boutique site.

I am excited to be able to order Bioderma Sensibio H2O which isn’t carried in-store anywhere in my town. Its also great to have more online shopping options for makeup products in Canada, especially since the recent Sephora shipping disaster.

Two Drugstore Lippies: Riche & Buttery

L'Oreal Color Riche Extraordinaire Lip Color and NYX Butter LipstickI know neither of these lip products are new to the drugstore, but both are new to me. It took a while for the NYX Butter Lipsticks to show up at my local drugstore, even though they’ve been out for ages now (sometimes living in small-town Canada has its disadvantages). I also had never been drawn to the L’Oreal Extraordinaire by Colour Riche Lip Color until recently when I saw My Exquisite World‘s review. So I picked up one of each the last time I was at Lawton’s.

I am in love with the L’Oreal Extraordinaire by Colour Riche Lip Color in the shade Molto Mauve. Not like a sticky gloss at all, these are more of a light, glossy liquid lipstick. Its super easy to apply and I can’t believe how long it stays on! It also wears off very evenly and in the prettiest way (unlike some liquid lip products).

Look how pretty this pinky nude shade is. On me, Molto Mauve is a my-lips-but-better type of shade. I am loving it for a natural, summertime look. Thanks for the recommendation Pooja! 🙂

Molto Mauve

The L’Oreal Extraordinaire does have a slight scent, but doesn’t smell like the L’Oreal Color Riche lipsticks which I really dislike the scent of. These have also been called a dupe for the YSL Glossy Stains, but I haven’t tried them so I wouldn’t know. Leave me a comment if you’ve tried both. Are they similar?

NYX Butter Lipstick in BLS11 Licorice

NYX Butter Lipstick in BLS11 Licorice

The second lip product I’m not as in love with. I’m a huge fan of the NYX Butter Glosses, so in fairness, I had high expectations. I think the word “Butter” in the product name had me anticipating something different. I’m not finding this lipstick buttery. I feel like it has a formula more similar to the MAC creamsheens, and I find both can feel a bit drying on my lips. The finish is a bit flat and very opaque and after wearing it for a while I almost felt like I was wearing a matte lipstick. I think a lot of people would totally go for this but the Butter Lipstick just isn’t really the type of formula I typically like. If you’re looking for something long-wearing, this would also work for you, especially the vampy burgundy shade, Licorice, that I tried.

What I did enjoy about the Butter Lipsticks was the packaging – how great is it that the colour of each tube matches the lipstick shade? – and the scent. The Butter Lipstick has the same yummy, sugary, edible scent as the Butter Glosses. Mmm!

The L’Oreal Extraordinaire by Colour Riche Lip Color is a slightly pricey for drugstore $13.49 CAD, but I really love it. The NYX Butter Lipsticks are a very reasonable $8.99 CAD.

Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat

Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat

Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat

Not only is Charlotte Tilbury available in Canada now and super easy to order from their Canadian website, there was free shipping on all orders for the whole month of July. I’ve been dying to try the lip products. I love lip liners. They’re one of my favourite makeup items. The Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Re-Shape & Re-Size Lip Liner was on my wish list.

When my order arrived, I was so impressed with the packaging!

Charlotte Tilbury Packaging

Nice packaging!

I tried the shade Iconic Nude, a fairly brown nude with a 1990’s feel to it.

Iconic Nude

The Lip Cheat description says “rich, velvety lip liner glides effortlessly over the lips” and “lasts up to 6 hours.” This liner is very smooth and creamy and easy to apply. Once its on, its not going anywhere! It is really long wearing and smudge-proof. Iconic Nude would go with a lot of lip colours. You could also fill in your lips with it and top it with a bit of lip balm or gloss.

I have a lot of lip liners and I was unable to find a dupe for Iconic Nude. Here it is swatched next to some other popular nude lip liners like Too Faced Perfect Nude, and MAC Spice, Stone, and Subculture. Its a unique shade.

Now I really want the shades Pillow Talk and Pink Venus! Charlotte Tilbury is seriously not helping my lip liner problem. I’m also dying to try the blushes.

The Lip Cheats are $27.00 CAD, and the CT website is entirely in Canadian dollars so no scary exchange rates. I was really happy with the shipping (which was free!) and there were no surprise additional charges.

I also ordered a lipstick which I will be reviewing soon as part of my High-end Lipstick Review Series & Giveaway, so stay tuned for that. I’d love to hear what your favourite Charlotte Tilbury product is!

Maybelline The Blushed Nudes Palette

Maybelline The Blushed Nudes eye shadow palette

Maybelline The Blushed Nudes

I need another eyeshadow palette like I need a hole in the head, but when I was waiting for a prescription refill at my Lawtons Drugstore, I spied the display of Maybelline eye shadow palettes. I’ve already posted about how much I liked the original Maybelline The Nudes palette. I ended up leaving with the new The Blushed Nudes palette. The pretty pink and rosy-toned neutrals were just too  much to resist!

Maybelline The Blushed Nudes eye shadow palette

Beautiful rosy neutrals

Its easy to see why reviewers are comparing this palette to the Urban Decay Naked 3, which is my fav out of the Naked palettes. Its certainly not a dupe for the Naked 3 though. There aren’t any exact dupes in either palette, but I would say they are similar palettes. If you like the rose-gold trend, you’ll probably like the shades in The Blushed Nudes palette. There are some great pinks, mauves, and rose-gold type of shades plus some cool-toned neutrals. Here it is compared to The Nudes palette:

Maybelline The Blushed Nudes versus original The Nudes palette

The Blushed Nudes VS original The Nudes palette

There are a few “duds” in The Blushed Nudes palette, like in the bottom row the first one on the left and the last two, which I find a bit chunky and a bit too glittery, but for the most part I think the quality of the shadows are the same as those in The Nudes palette. There are more shimmery shades in The Blushed Nudes (9 out of the 12) but the mattes they did include are excellent and I have used them with all of the eye looks I’ve done.

Maybelline The Blushed Nudes palette swatches

The Blushed Nudes swatches

I have created the prettiest neutral, everyday eye looks with this palette. Like The Nudes, with a primer I find these super easy to apply and blend, and they wear well all day without creasing. I like this palette as much as, if not maybe more than, The Nudes palette. Some reviewers have complained that they aren’t as pigmented as they’d like, but I find on my fair skin they show up very well and create subtle, wearable eye looks. I could understand if gals with darker skin tones find some of the shades too light.

I’m a fan of the Maybelline palettes and at $14.99 CAD for 12 shadows, they are a much better deal than the seriously over-priced and terrible L’oreal La Nudes palettes which cost twice as much (you can check out my review if you’d like).

I haven’t tried out Maybelline’s The Smokes palette yet. If anyone’s got that one please let me know if you think its worth getting.
