In April I did a review of the awesome new NYX Hot Singles eye shadows after having ordered 14 of them in an array of beautiful neutrals. I had promised to look for dupes or very similar shades in my own eye shadow collection, mainly my MAC collection, and have finally found time to do this post. I hope you find this helpful if you’ve been looking for dupes for some of the higher end shadows mentioned here or if you’re looking to order some of the NYX Hot Singles and need help selecting shades.
Let’s get started…
First up is Loaded, a neutral taupe with a slight sheen. I found it very similar to MAC Coquette (although Coquette is lighter) and a close dupe for MAC Concrete.
NYX S.O.S. a soft, matte, cool-toned “greige” is – as I suspected – a dupe for another of my favourites, Revlon ColorStay ShadowLinks in Greige.
The next two NYX shades I think I found exact dupes for. First is NYX Fancy That and MAC ALL That Glitters.
The next is NYX Guilt Trip, which is a dupe for MAC Espresso. I actually think Guilt Trip has a much nicer matte formula and is smoother and easier to blend than Espresso which I have always found a bit difficult to work with.
I was so sure I had a dupe of NYX Coquette, a soft, matte, purple-toned neutral. Although I found 3 really similar shades, I don’t think either of them are exact dupes. NYX Coquette is similar to MAC Quarry and Nooner from the UD Naked 3 palette (which are total dupes for one another), and Makeup Geek Unexpected.
The last one is NYX Damage Control, a beautiful taupe with a very pretty sheen. I really hate to use the word “dupe” for this one, so I will say its similar to MAC Satin Taupe. I think Satin Taupe is an incredibly unique shade with so many subtle undertones and a bit of a duochrome finish, that I think its hard to dupe. However, if you’re looking for something to give you a very similar eye look, Damage Control is close, but I would say more cool-toned.
Most of the NYX Hot Singles turned out to be pretty unique and I was unable to find dupes for them (in my collection anyhow). For a full review, swatches of all 14 shades, and pricing info, you can check out my previous post.
