Went in for Cheek Pops, Left with a Different Blush!

New Urban Decay Afterglow 8-hour Blush

New Urban Decay Afterglow 8-hour Blush

I’ve been in Ottawa for work this past week, and while I was there, visited the Sephora in the Rideau Centre. I totally went in to check out the Clinique Cheek Pop blushes with the super cute flower design. I’d been hearing several other YouTubers & bloggers mention them and was especially interested in the shade Nude Pop.

I have to say, in person, I was so disappointed. After swatching them, I found them to be way too shimmery for me (think lots of little individual flecks of shimmer). All the shades seemed to have the exact same finish. I’m just not a shimmery blush kind of gal. Feeling bummed, I wandered forlornly around Sephora till a SA asked if I needed any help. I told her my tale of Cheek Pop woe and she immediately suggested I check out the new Urban Decay blushes. I’m so glad I did. The “Afterglow” (named in typical UD fashion) 8-hour powder blushes are beautiful!

I think this is the coolest blush packaging I’ve ever seen. Several of the blushes were matte and had the softest, buttery texture, much like the UD eye shadows. I chose the shade Fetish, described as a โ€œmedium pink nude,” which I would say is a pale, neutral pinky-nude blush with a matte finish. UD describes the Afterglow blushes as “extremely blendable”, “sheer”, and “finely milled”, which I would completely agree with.

Look at the subtle, pale loveliness of this blush! Such a perfect blush for fair skin I think.

The Urban Decay Afterglow 8-hour Blushes are $31 CAD.

What do you think? Clinique Cheek Pop VS Urban Decay Afterglow? Are you loving the shimmery Cheek Pops or do you prefer a matte blush? I’d love to hear from you.

Thank for reading!

  4. I completely forgot about the Cheek Pops when I was stateside this weekend! There was only really one I wanted (the Posy Pop) which isn’t carried here (for some reason our local Department Store only carries 4 of the blushes). Anyway, sad story aside, I haven’t swatched them all so I can’t say anything regarding the finish based on personal experience. I was really impressed with the new UD Naked Powder Foundation though and came home with one. ๐Ÿ™‚ I should have checked out the blushes as well! xo

  5. Oh that’s too bad you didn’t like the Cheek Pop – I have 2 of the original ones which aren’t that shimmery, maybe the newer colours (which Nude is part of) are more shimmery?
I have Fetish from the old original Urban Decay blushes and it’s got shimmer! It’s also a deeper rose shade, bordering on wine… why would they relaunch the blushes. They’re even called the same thing – Afterglow blushes!
This version of Fetish looks a lot like one of my favourites from Illamasqua, called Naked Rose. It’s a shade that would go with a lot of different eye looks since it’s so neutral. Great choice!
I prefer matte blushes usually – my thought is, if I want shimmer on my cheeks, I can ALWAYS add a highlighter.

  8. I have Clinique Berry Pop and find it a little underwhelming. Was eyeing the UD blushes just last week – thanks for the review! It looks super pretty.

I have Nude Pop and Pansy Pop and I haven’t noticed them to be especially shimmering. But I do want the new Urban Decay blushes. They are so gorgeous and I love the packaging!

I love both finishes but the UD blush looks amazing!! Though I just ordered one of the Clinique Cheek Pop blushes in Melon. Luckily I don’t mind shimmer lol. ๐Ÿ™‚ xo
