good plum drugstore lipsticks

Spoiler alert: One of these lipsticks was a hit, and one was a bit of a fail. Keep reading to find out which one was which πŸ™‚

I’m so obsessed with plum lipsticks right now. My Mom and I went on a mission to our local drugstore to find her some good plums and, of course, I ended up with a few too. She found some really beautiful shades in the Milani Color Statement lipsticks: 20 Uptown Mauve, 21 Sangria (deep purple berry), and 24 Black Cherry (a dark, vampy wine). I just can’t get past the watermelon scent of these, but my Mom loves them and says they are creamy and lovely. I must say I really liked the shades.

Milani Uptown Mauve, Sangria, Black CherryI picked up another Revlon Super Lustrous lipstick in Plumalicious. Its a berry plum that’s a little on the reddish-brown side but with enough purpleness to keep it in the plum family. Its fairly dark on me, but is a wearable shade and the pearl finish keeps it from being too vampy. Its slightly sheer and a little bit glossy. I totally love it.

I decided to be brave and try another drugstore brand lippie, although I’m generally not a big fan of anything else besides the Revlon lip products, mainly due to the scents. The scent of the Covergirl LipPerfection Lipcolour didn’t seem too objectionable; a not overly strong cotton-candy scent. I really, really, loved the shade Entwined, a cooler-toned, deep mauvey plum.

This shade looked rich and lovely and had crazy intense staying power. Here’s where it all went awry though: It really stains your lips. The problem is it didn’t stain my lips a flattering berry shade. It stained my lips orange! I have no idea how to explain it, but the colour left behind was a weird orangey-red like when you’re a little kid and you’ve just had a brightly coloured popsicle. And I couldn’t get it off! It was still on the next day. So the Covergirl LipPerfection was a bit of a fail for me. It looks great when you first put it on, but I’m not a fan of the weird staining effect.

In Canada, Revlon Super Lustrous lipsticks are about $7.50-9.99 CAD and the Covergirl LipPerfection lipsticks about $8.50-9.99 CAD depending where you buy them.

And in case you’re wondering – I would love to hear recommendations for more good plum lipsticks!

Thanks for reading!
Love,

Oh ick. One of my Wet n Wild lipsticks leaves a stain too. Maybe the red dye that they use causes it?
