The Revlon lip products were on sale at my drugstore, and I had been wanting to try out the new Super Lustrous “Shine” lipsticks that have a different finish than the regular Creme and Pearl finishes and the newer matte finish. I have quite a few Super Lustrous lipsticks and I really love them. I should really do a post on the rest of my collection (here’s my favourite Revlon lipsticks for fall). A few of the shades in the Shine formula were calling my name…
Pink Cognito: A light peachey-pink
Plum Velour: A gorgeous deep plummey-berry
Foxy Lady: A dark, vampy, mauvey-brown and quite a unique shade I think
I was very surprised by how different the formula of these are from the other Super Lustrous lipsticks I have. They are extremely sheer. The intensity in the tube doesn’t translate onto your lips. This didn’t work well for the lightest shade, Pink Cognito. It was so light and sheer that it didn’t really show up on me. It was more like a slightly tinted lip balm. The other two shades are much more intense so I didn’t have that issue.
I enjoy sheer, balmy lipsticks, so at first I thought I would like these. But, I am not entirely sold on the shine formula. It doesn’t go on as smoothly and evenly as I would like. It takes a bit of fussing with and I had to apply multiple coats. Once I got it built up and looking ok, I really loved both of the shades. Neither had very much staying power though, but did stain my lips (especially Plum Velour). I find they work better over a lip liner.
You can get an idea of the sheerness and slight unevenness from the swatches:
These are alright, but I think I’m going to stick with the regular creme and pearl finishes, or for something sheer and balmy go with the Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains or ColorBurst Lacquer Balms.
Revlon Super Lustrous lipsticks are $9.99 CAD.
Thanks for stopping by ❤
