I’m not normally a big liquid or gel liner girl, but I redeemed some Sephora points for this mini Benefit They’re Real! Push-up Liner because there seemed to be such a lot of buzz about it. I was also interested because Benefit claimed “Its flat, wide guard gently pushes lashes aside to get close to lash line” and it “hugged the lash line”. I have a bit of a hooded eyelid, so I don’t typically wear liner on my upper lid because I have a difficult time applying it there plus it can often add a heavy look to my eye. I liked the idea of a liner that could get at the base of my upper lash line to emphasize my lashes.
The Push-up Liner has an “AccuFlex” tip (which is happily latex free for those of us with latex sensitivity) and you twist the pen to squeeze the gel liner up into the tip. I have to say that this rubbery tip does not make the gel liner any easier to apply. I had the same difficulty getting the tip close enough to the base of my lashes as I do with other liners, and the formula is a bit on the dry side so it didn’t exactly glide on. I was able to get a fairly thin line, which I wanted.
I was happy with the final look – if not the ease of application – but the nail in the coffin was that at the end of the day this liner had totally smudged. The thin line I started out with had smudged all over my eyelid, and I was even wearing eyeshadow primer and powder eyeshadow. So not sure this liner lives up to its claims of being long wearing.
If I thought the Benefit They’re Real! Push-up Liner might convert me into a gel eyeliner wearer, I was wrong. This liner was not my cup of tea.
The full sized Benefit They’re Real! Push-up Liner is $29.00 CAD.
Have you tried it? What do you think?
