Shiny, Captain: Sally Hanson Diamond Hard Flash Topcoat

Sally Hansen Diamond Hard Flash Top Coat

Sally Hansen Diamond Hard Flash Top Coat

Just a quick post to tell you about a top coat I just discovered, Sally Hansen Diamond Hard Flash Top Coat. I was in the nail polish section and a lady was looking for it and I helped her find it. She just raved about it, so I bought a bottle too! Although the bottle is black, it’s your typical clear polish.

The thing I like most about it is how shiny it is. With two coats it almost gives the effect of shellac nail polish. It’s also the most long-wearing top coat that I’ve tried so far and it dries really fast (in about a minute).

Sally Hansen Diamond Hard Flash Top Coat is approximately $4.99 – $5.99 CAD, depending on where you purchase it, and is available in Canada in most drugstores, Walmart, and Target.

In case you’re wondering, the colour I have on my nails is “In the Morning” from the OPI Gwen Stefani collection, a very dark charcoal grey. I didn’t realize when I bought it that it’s a matte finish. OPI calls it a “satin” finish. I love the shade, but I’m so not into matte nail polish. I like it with a shiny topcoat over it though.

Maybelline The Nudes Eye Shadow Palette

Maybelline The Nudes: A neutral eye shadow palette at the drugstore!

A neutral eye shadow palette at the drugstore for $14.99! Crazy!

I’ve been waiting for Maybelline’s The Nudes eye shadow palette to appear at my drugstore. I had heard mixed reviews, but I couldn’t resist a neutral eye shadow palette from a drugstore brand for $14.99 CAD. I really wanted to try it out for myself.

I don’t have a lot of drugstore eye shadows, with the big exception of NYX which I Love, so I honestly didn’t have super high expectations. I’ve been really surprised and impressed! I love the  sleek, compact packaging and I quite like the 12 shades which include both warm and cool toned browns and greys. You could get a warm or a cool  eye look with this palette.

Maybelline The Nudes palette has a pretty good mix of both warm and cool tones

The Nudes palette has a pretty good mix of both warm and cool tones

Half of the shades are matte, and the remaining six have a bit of a shimmery finish, but not glittery or overly shimmery or anything. I was surprised by how pigmented and smooth they were for drugstore shadows. They reminded me a little of some of the NYX shadows.

Swatches: Maybelline The Nudes palette

Swatches: Maybelline The Nudes palette

I had heard complaints about these being patchy and hard to blend, but I didn’t find that at all. They blended nicely. I apply them over my Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer. They lasted well and didn’t crease. I even really like the matte, flesh-toned shade (third one on the top) which I used on my brow-bone and to blend out the other shadows. Palettes hardly ever have a shade like this that I actually use. I normally still have to reach for my MAC Brule.

I think this cute little neutral palette is an amazing deal!

Thanks so much for visiting my blog! ❤

Ipsy July Glam Bag Review

July Glam Bag: mini bareMinerals Ready Eyeshadow 2.0, pur-lisse pur-protect essential daily moisturizer spf30, Clear Clinic Laboratories Vanished Clear Spot Treatment, Models Own Nail polish, and Pixi Tinted Brilliance Balm

July Glam Bag: mini bareMinerals Ready Eyeshadow 2.0, pur-lisse pur-protect essential daily moisturizer spf30, Clear Clinic Laboratories Vanished Clear Spot Treatment, Models Own nail polish, and Pixi Tinted Brilliance Balm

My July bag arrived really late this month. The July bag’s theme was “Sensationally Sunkissed” and the bag was bright pink (my favourite colour!). Unfortunately it was another one of those plastic bags with a strong chemical off-gassing smell. Ick.

In the July bag was:

  • bareMinerals Ready Eyeshadow 2.0 mini with the shades “Muse” and “Passion” a pink and a purple shade:  $25.00 for full size
  • pur-lisse pur-protect essential daily moisturizer spf30 (15ml sample size): $65.00 for full 50 ml size
  • Clear Clinic Laboratories Vanished Clear Spot Treatment (2 ml sample size):  $38.00 for full 7.5 ml size
  • Models Own nail polish in “Red Sea”: $9.50
  • Pixi Tinted Brilliance Balm mini in “Pretty Pink” (1.8 g sample size): $22.00 for full size

Retail prices are in CAD and don’t include taxes or applicable shipping.

The total retail value of the July bag if I were to purchase the full-sized products (not including taxes or shipping, etc.) would be: $159.50 CAD. This month’s bag was pretty high-end.

I absolutely love the mini bareMinerals eyeshadow and mini Pixi tinted lip Balm – they are beyond cute. Pur-lisse and Clear Clinic Laboratories are two expensive brands and I’m excited to try them out. Overall, a really good bag this month!

Thanks for stopping by ❤

Liebster Award Nomination!

Liebster Award
I was nominated for a Liebster Award by the super cute ColorMePeach. The rules are: I have to answer 11 questions given to me by the person who nominated me, list 11 random/fun facts about myself, and nominate 11 bloggers with under 200 followers to answer my questions, and let them know they’re nominated (fyi – I wasn’t sure how to determine “followers” since there are many ways to subscribe to a blog, so I’m just going by WordPress followers).

Here are the 11 questions from ColorMePeach:

1. Do you watch youtube makeup gurus, and who are your favorites? I am addicted to youtube, and I subscribe to a lot of different beauty vloggers. Just a few of my current favourites are:
LisaLisaD1
TanjaHolland
JuliesBeautyDish
KristinGehm
Tarababyz
Zoeebella

2. If you had to live in an extreme climate would it be very hot or cold? I’m from Canada. Cold of course 🙂

3. Who inspired you to blog? Not so much a specific “who”. I loved reading other people’s blogs and I knew I had lots of opinions about makeup myself. I thought I might have a unique perspective to offer because I’m Canadian, I have very fair skin and also sensitive skin. I always had a hard time finding info on where to buy products in Canada, and reviews specific to my skintone and type. That’s what inspired me to start my blog.

4. Do you try and save money on makeup? If so, how? That’s difficult in Canada. I’m always hearing about amazing sales at some of the American chains, like Ulta, but Canadian drugstores don’t really do that. Plus I end up having to order most things online. A couple of things I do to try to save money are:

  • Read the fine print about shipping before I order online, and use companies that either offer free shipping with a minimum purchase, or ship via USPS or Canada Post, and don’t charge additional customs or import duties.
  • Redeem my Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum Points on makeup. All my Chanel makeup for instance I got with Optimum Points.

5. Do you have any pets? I had a dog, a german-sheppard cross named Clov, who I had for 12 years. She passed away two years ago 😦

My dog Clov

My dog Clov

6. Under water snorkeling or skydiving? Honestly, neither. I’m not much of a thrill seeker. Both sound way too scary.

7. What’s your favorite number? I don’t really have one.

8. What are your plans in 5 years? Well, I’m engaged, so in 5 years I plan on being married, and we’ll need to buy a bigger house (I bought a really little place when I was single). I love my job, so I plan on still working in the same place. Other than that, I don’t have any specific plans. I’ll just see where life takes me I guess 🙂

9. Favorite can’t-live-without makeup product? Under-eye concealer!

My two favourite concealers: Laura Mercier Secret Concealer & L'Oreal Magic Lumi Concealer

My two favourite concealers: Laura Mercier Secret Concealer & L’Oreal Magic Lumi Concealer

10. What is a store you always stop at while shopping? Sephora!

11. What’s your most unique piece of clothing? Probably my fascinator collection – I have about a dozen or so.

11 Fun/Random Facts About Me:

  • My favourite colour is pink
  • I have an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts
  • I am lactose & gluten intolerant
  • I once drove the entire way across Canada, from British Columbia to Newfoundland
  • I’ve never had “brain freeze”: my useless superpower is that I can drink or eat super cold things really fast
  • My favourite cocktail is a Vodka Gimlet (vodka, club soda, and a twist of lime on ice)
  • I have a sister who has red hair and freckles and looks nothing like me
  • I love old, black and white Hollywood films
  • My favourite tv show of all time is Buffy the Vampire Slayer
  • I’m tall (5’9″) and have really big feet (size 10)
  • I’ve always wanted to ride in a hot air balloon

I’m nominating these 11 awesome bloggers:

Their 11 questions are:

1. Which current celebrity do you think has the best makeup?
2. If you had to pick, which one of these 1980s movie characters would you be?

Claire from The Breakfast Club, Baby from Dirty Dancing, or Sloane from Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Claire from The Breakfast Club, Baby from Dirty Dancing, or Sloane from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

3. What is your number one, absolute favourite lipstick of all time?
4. What is your favourite shade of eyeshadow right now?
5. Is there a nailpolish shade you’re currently loving?
6. What was the first makeup or beauty product you remember buying?
7. Which decade’s makeup style do you like best?
makeup styles through the decades
8. What splurge-worthy, high-end makeup item is on your wish list right now?
9. What are you currently binge-watching on Netflix or whats in your recently viewed list?
10. Have you ever tried a makeup or beauty DIY and if so, how did it work out?
11. What is one helpful makeup or beauty tip you could share?

I’m looking forward to everyone’s posts!

Two Recent Mascara Fails

MAC False Lashes Extreme Black Mascara and Volum' Express Falsies Big Eyes Washable Mascara

MAC False Lashes Extreme Black Mascara and Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies Big Eyes Washable Mascara

A couple of months ago, I had run out of my favourite mascara, the Guerlain Maxi Lash, and happened to be near a MAC Store. I thought I’d pick up my second favourite mascara, MAC’s Haute & Naughty Too Black Lash. When I got back to the hotel, I realized the SA had accidentally put a False Lashes Extreme Black Mascara in my bag instead. I loved the cool shape of the tube and thought, well let’s give this one a try then!

MAC False Lashes Extreme Black Mascara

MAC False Lashes Extreme Black Mascara

Sadly, it didn’t turn out to be a serendipitous discovery of a great new mascara. This one didn’t work for me at all.  My biggest issue was with the wand, which is odd because I usually like a bristle brush. The False Lashes Extreme Black brush is too thick and the bristles too short and stiff – they’re jam packed close together – making it really hard to get the mascara on your eyelashes. The formula is really dry which also doesn’t help with the application. This was a pain to apply and worst of all it would flake off during the day. For $25 CAD, I expect a mascara to stay on a lot better.

I headed to the drugstore for a replacement when I got home. I had been wanting to try Maybelline’s Volum’ Express The Falsies Big Eyes Washable Mascara. Ever since Clinique came out with their Bottom Lash Mascara, I have been ranting to anyone who would listen that ALL mascaras should come with a double wand: one for the top lashes and one for the bottom lashes. Isn’t that a good idea? Finally, Maybelline made one. I love the concept!

Maybelline Volum' Express The Falsies Big Eyes Washable Mascara

Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies Big Eyes Washable Mascara

I liked both the applicators on this one, although I thought the bottom lash brush could have been smaller. Here it is compared to Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara. The Maybelline brush is twice as long!

Maybelline Volum' Express The Falsies Big Eyes Washable Mascara VS Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara

Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies Big Eyes Washable Mascara VS Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara

What I didn’t like about the Volum’ Express The Falsies Big Eyes is the formula. Like many drugstore mascaras I’ve tried, this one just didn’t stay on. It smudged quite badly on my lower lashes (I’m sticking to my Clinique Bottom Lash from now on) and it flaked off throughout the day. It also didn’t give my lashes much volume, although it was lengthening.

The Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies Big Eyes Washable Mascara is $8.99 CAD. Have you tried it? Did you love it or leave it?

Review: Wet n Wild Mega Last Lip Color

Wet n Wild Mega Last Lip Color in "902C Bare It All"

Wet n Wild Mega Last Lip Color in “902C Bare It All”

A lot of beauty bloggers mention Wet n Wild products in their favourites, so I have been trying out a few things from the line – I recently reviewed some Wet n Wild eye shadows I’ve tried and the Balm Stains. I went to my local Lawtons Drugs to look at the Wet n wild lipsticks and found that my store only carried the Silk Finish Lipstick and the Mega Last Lip Color, although I think Wet n Wild has more lipstick collections. Honestly, I just couldn’t get past the unattractive (in my opinion) and cheap looking packaging of the Silk Finish Lipsticks. Here’s a pic from the Wet n Wild site if you haven’t seen them:
wet n wild silk finish lipstick
So, I went with the Mega Last Lip Color which I think has fairly nice looking packaging. There was a really good colour selection (20 really pretty colours). Vampy Varnish has some awesome swatches and photos of all the shades. I choose “902C Bare It All”, a sort of 1990s browney-nude with a hint of pinkey-peachiness to it. I thought it looked like a good wearable, everyday shade.

Swatch: Wet n Wild Mega Last Lip Color in "902C Bare It All"

Swatch: Wet n Wild Mega Last Lip Color in “902C Bare It All”

Sadly, I didn’t realize these lipsticks are “semi-matte” and realistically it feels totally matte once applied. I have fairly dry lips so this formula is not working for me at all. I find it very drying and uncomfortable 😦

So the Mega Last Lip Color is a miss for me, which is a shame, because at $3.99 CAD these would be an amazing deal. If you don’t mind matte lipsticks, I would recommend these just based on the really nice colour selection and the price.  Wet n Wild is also available in Canada at Walmart and through Well.ca and FTB Beauty.

What have you tried from Wet n Wild that you totally loved?

Visanti Lipshine

Visanti Lipshine in Coral Sea

Visanti Lipshine in Coral Sea

I don’t normally gravitate towards lip gloss, but I received a Visanti Lipshine as a gift a little while ago and wanted to do a review because I was surprised to find that I really like it. Vasanti is a Canadian brand that I actually haven’t tried many products from. I immediately liked the packaging. Its a substantial glass tube (not plastic) and looks and feels very high-end.

The Lipshine is described as “wind-proof, cake-proof…non-stick shine” and I would have to agree. This gloss melts into your lips almost like a liquid lipstick. Its long wearing and not sticky! It’s the stickiness that normally turns me off of lipgloss. It almost reminds me a little bit of the texture of the NYX Butter Glosses. It does have a slight fruity scent, but has no taste.

Swatch: Visanti Lipshine in Coral Sea

Swatch: Visanti Lipshine in Coral Sea

I have the shade “Coral Sea”, a pretty coral pink, but the Lipshine comes in 22 different shades, which is a pretty good selection.

The Vasanti Lipshine is $15.00 CAD and is available through the Vasanti website and in select Shoppers Drug Mart, Rexall, Lawtons, and Pharmasave locations.

Have you tired any of the Vasanti products?

So Excited About Urban Decay’s Pulp Fiction Collection!

Urban Decay's Pulp Fiction Collection available July 16th

Urban Decay’s Pulp Fiction Collection available July 16th

I am a huge fan of Pulp Fiction. I remember in the 90s when the film first came out (can you believe it was 20 years ago?) and all my friends and I just wanted to be Uma Thurman. We all loved her look – her black cropped hair, blood red lips and nails – and thought she was the epitome of cool.

Uma Thurman as Mia Wallace in 1994.

Uma Thurman as Mrs. Mia Wallace in 1994

I may not have been able to get Chanel’s famous Vamp nailpolish, which she wore in the film, but I wore anything similar that I could find, like Revlon’s Vixen. A couple of years ago, I even dressed up as Mia Wallace for Halloween, lol.

Tomorrow, we can live our fantasy of looking like Mrs. Mia Wallace, with Urban Decay’s Pulp Fiction collection, an eyeshadow palette, lipstick, lipliner, and nail polish inspired by Uma’s makeup look. I am so excited!

Will you be picking up any of the Pulp Fiction collection?

New Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain

Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain in Parisian Passion

Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain in 005 “Parisian Passion”

My drugstore finally had the Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain in stock! I’ve really been wanting to try these because I love Revlon lip products. I love the packaging on these new Moisture Stains; the square tube is so neat. There are 11 shades and most of them are very bright. I was immediately drawn to “005 Parisian Passion”  a deep, rich purpley-berry shade. I love this colour!

Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain in Parisian Passion

Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain in “Parisian Passion”

Swatch: Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain in Parisian Passion

Swatch: Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain in “Parisian Passion”

Accurately described as “ultra-light creamy lipstain”, it feels so moisturizing and (hooray!) is completely non-sticky. I was very surprised that it was long-wearing but doesn’t dry out my lips. That’s pretty rare. I found that the Moisture Stain didn’t transfer at all when I was drinking and lasted for hours, and it felt comfortable the entire time. I was hoping for a bit more of a staining effect, especially since this is such a dark colour, but I didn’t find it stained much, not like the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains do.

The Moisture Stains aren’t really scented but do have a slight scent. They smell like the Revlon Lip Glosses. Once applied, they don’t taste like anything.

The Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stains are $12.99 CAD.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Don’t take free samples in Vegas: Forever Flawless Review

Forever Flawless Diamond Infused Cleansing Complex and Diamond Infused Facial Peeling Gel

Forever Flawless Diamond Infused Cleansing Complex and Diamond Infused Facial Peeling Gel

This is my light-hearted “warning” about Forever Flawless. While we were walking through the Cosmopolitan, a lady standing outside a shop handed us each a free sample of moisturizer in a little diamond shaped package. She told us she would also give us a sample of their undereye serum and the next thing we knew we were sitting in chairs while another sales person was slathering us with creams and demonstrating exfoliators for us, which I have to say were impressive.

Forever Flawless All-Purpose Lotion sample that actually contains no diamond powder

Just say no: Forever Flawless All-Purpose Lotion sample that actually contains no diamond powder

He told us a year’s supply of a complete set of diamond infused skincare (which was three products) used by celebrities like Celine Dion and Mila Kunis was $399 USD. We had no intention of paying that, and as we started to leave, suddenly the price started dropping and he kept adding on additional products at no extra charge. To make a long story short, in the end my friend left with a big bag of about 5 or 6 products (including make-up remover, cleanser, undereye serum, moisturizer, etc.) for $200, and I left with the Diamond Infused Facial Peeling Gel and Diamond Infused Cleansing Complex for $100. This sales guy was good! Plus, we had also recently been enjoying breakfast mimosas. We decided right then and there: Don’t take “free” samples in Vegas! lol.

Forever Flawless Diamond Infused Facial Peeling Gel

Forever Flawless Diamond Infused Facial Peeling Gel

Forever Flawless Diamond Infused Facial Peeling Gel

Forever Flawless Diamond Infused Facial Peeling Gel

When I got home, I googled Forever Flawless, a Las Vegas-based company, and saw that the price of the Facial Peeling Gel is $179 USD and the Cleansing Complex $99 USD, although I have no idea if anyone is going on the website and actually paying that. So I got nearly $200 off?

I also found several reviews claiming that the products are a “scam” and dangerous, not FDA approved, cause rashes, etc. So I read the packaging very carefully. Its made in the USA, and I researched every single ingredient, and each one was an approved, commonly used ingredient considered safe and non-sensitizing (i.e should not cause an allergic reaction). It doesn’t contain real gold (which you apparently shouldn’t put on your skin). The “karat gold pigment” is simply mica which is in many, many cosmetic products. One site warned about the “dangers” of diamond powder, but that is literally from eating it or inhaling it – I’m really not worried about it being dissolved in a liquid or gel cosmetic.

So, if you have, like me, purchased Forever Flawless products and then were fairly alarmed after googling the reviews, relax. We probably certainly over-payed for them, but they aren’t dangerous. They contain ingredients found in just about every other cosmetic. I’m actually really enjoying the Facial Peeling Gel which I think is a pretty effective and gentle exfoliator. I have sensitive skin and have not had any reaction to the products.

Does diamond powder have “exceptional powers and miraculous therapeutic abilities” as Forever Flawless claims? Probably not. But, I’ve bought plenty of other products with hyped special ingredients (I’m looking at you Amazonian clay, argon oil, hyaluronic acid, mineral makeup, to name a few) that may or may not be effective, and have never felt “scammed”. My friend and I decided we have a funny Vegas story plus some skincare products that we are definitely going to use up (since we payed so much for them!).

Have you ever had an experience like ours?

Thanks for stopping by!

Beauty Blogger of the Month Nomination!

beauty blogger of the month awardI was nominated for Cecilia’s Corner Beauty Blogger of the Month Award by the sweet and lovely Christina from A Casual Beauty and the talented Sonal from sonalhira…x. You should really check out their beauty blogs. I think this award that Cecilia created is such a neat idea and I am very honored and excited to be nominated.

Part of the nomination is answering these 7 beauty related questions:

1. Where does your makeup inspiration come from? From my mom and my grandma, both very beautiful ladies who would never leave the house without looking glamorous. For day-to-day inspiration, other beauty bloggers and youtubers (I’m addicted to tutorials!). I’m also always looking closely at the actresses’ makeup whenever I’m watching a tv show on Netflix or a movie, and then I have to Google what eyeshadow or lipstick they were wearing. I even ask strangers what makeup they’re wearing sometimes! So I get inspiration from a lot of places.

2. What are 3 of your makeup Holy Grail products you cannot live without?
Concealer, concealer, concealer? I definitely could not live without under-eye concealer. If I had to pick two more, I would go with blush and lipstick. My three couldn’t-live-without-them makeup products would have to be:

Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage Concealer, Benefit Benetint, and MAC Capricious lipstick

Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage Concealer, Benefit Benetint Cheek Stain, and MAC Capricious lipstick (my current favourite)

3. What is your makeup signature look which you have on most of the time?
Most days I have on very work appropriate (I work at a library) and natural looking makeup: foundation and concealer, light neutral eyeshadow, mascara, blush, and either a nude, a pink or a berry-toned lip.

The makeup look I have on most of the time

The makeup look I have on most of the time

4. Let us know your favorite makeup brands? Let’s see…MAC, Revlon, NYX, Benefit, and if I’m feeling splurgey, Chanel and Guerlain.

5. Your ultimate makeup pet peeve? I don’t really have a specific one, except maybe not wearing makeup at all, ever. I have to hold back the urge to start putting makeup on them 🙂

6. You’ve heard about all the hype on this makeup item, bought it, tried it and don’t understand what all the fuss is about…Name that product!

Tom Ford Lip Color

Tom Ford Lip Color

7. Concealer OR foundation ONLY for the rest of your life. Choose one and tell us the reason! Concealer, definitely! I am very pale and my under-eye area is quite dark and purpley and really stands out. Without concealer I look so tired. I also strongly believe that over the age of 30, under-eye concealer is not optional – lol.

I am also happy to nominate 7 other awesome bloggers to receive next month’s Beauty Blogger award:

bareMinerals Store Visit!

bareMinerals store in the Fashion Show Mall, Las Vegas

beautiful bareMinerals store in the Fashion Show Mall, Las Vegas

I didn’t have a lot of time to spend in the Fashion Show Mall but I was so excited when I saw they had a whole bareMinerals store. I had never even seen one before. I had been to the Sephora in The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace specifically to get bareMinerals’ new Bareskin liquid foundation because I haven’t been able to get it in Canada. I visited a Canadian Sephora about a month ago and they weren’t carrying it yet, and on their website they don’t have all the shades (like the lightest shades which would match me). The Forum Sephora was sold out of the shade that matched me (although the SA was kind enough to give me a sample).

I was soo happy to finally get the Bareskin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation in Bare Porcelain 01. I bought the accompanying Perfecting Face Brush as well.  The girl who worked there gave me a really nice Bareskin canvas tote bag too!

bareMinerals Bareskin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation, Perfecting Face Brush, and free Bareskin canvas tote!

Before I left, I had to take a picture of the display of loose pigment eyecolors because they were so pretty!

I haven’t used the foundation yet and want to use it for a little while before writing a review, but I will definitely be reviewing it for you!

More Vegas Makeup Shopping: Mac Pro

Makeup from the MAC Pro store in the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace

Makeup from the MAC Pro store in the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace

MAC Pro store in the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace

MAC Pro store in the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace

The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace is one of the craziest shopping centres I have ever been in. It’s an entire mall made to look like ancient Rome, complete with a painted faux sky ceiling. There’s a mix of high-end shops – like Burberry, Loubouton, Versace, Dior – and stores regular people like me shop in like H&M, GAP, Sephora, and most exciting of all a MAC Pro store.

I’d never been to a Pro store and it was so cool to see all of the colourful Pro products. I asked the SA about some of the popular Pro products and she immediately asked if I’d tried Peachstock lipstick which she said looks good on almost everyone. I tried it on and I really liked it. I was nervous about the word “peach” in the name, but it has a lot of browney-beigeyness to it, and even though I am quite pale, it doesn’t wash me out. It looks very natural.

She also recommended the MAC Sculpting Powder and choose the shade “Bone Beige” for me.

MAC Sculpting Powder Pro Palette in "Bone Beige"

The Sculpting Powder is soo soft! Bone Beige is a lovely shade for fair skin. When I was going through the pics from my trip, I saw one and wondered – hey my blush looks good, what was I wearing?  and I remembered that was the day I went to MAC and the SA had applied the Sculpting Powder. I’m wearing Peachstock too. Here’s what they looked like on:

I also picked up a couple of lip liners because I have a MAC lipliner problem, Dervish Lip Pencil, a pretty, cool brownish-pink, and Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Staunchly Stylish, a rosey, pinkey-brown. These aren’t Pro products though.

Here’s the price breakdown with approximate $CAD equivalent compared to what I would normally pay in Canada:

  • Dervish Lip Pencil – $15 USD ($16 CAD, regularly $18 CAD)
  • Staunchly Stylish Pro Longwear Lip Pencil – $19.50 USD ($21 CAD, regularly $23 CAD)
  • Peachstock Lipstick – $16 USD ($17 CAD, regularly $19 CAD)
  • Bone Beige Sculpting Powder – $16.50 USD ($18 CAD, regularly $19.50 CAD)

So I saved about $7.50 by shopping in the US 🙂

I hope you’re enjoying hearing about my Vegas shopping escapades! I have a few more posts to come.

Thanks so much for stopping by! I really appreciate all your likes and comments.

Las Vegas Makeup Shopping: The Guerlain Shop

Makeup from Guerlain at the Grand Canal Shoppes

A trip to Guerlain at the Grand Canal Shoppes

Hello everyone! I am finally back from my trip, where I didn’t have any wifi access at the hotel or the conference centre. Sorry I haven’t been able to post anything. I had an amazing time and have lots of great stuff that I picked up in Vegas to tell you about.
welcome to fabulous las vegas nevada
While visiting the Venetian (yes, I did go on the gondola ride, lol) we strolled through the Grand Canal Shoppes where I spotted a Guerlain store. I can only order Guerlain through the Sephora website; They don’t seem to carry it in-store at the Canadian Sephoras. I was excited to actually get to see the products in real life and swatch them. My absolute favourite mascara is Guerlain Maxi Lash Volume Creating Curl Sculpting Mascara. I had recently used mine up and tried out two other mascaras in the meantime that I really didn’t care for (I will do a review of those soon).

The Guerlain Maxi Lash has a traditional bristle brush and is on the smaller, thinner side, so it’s a lot easier to apply than some of the mascaras with the popular new humongous wands. I just love the formula of this mascara – very thick! It really makes my lashes look thicker and fuller. And although I know it sounds weird, this mascara is just blacker than any other I’ve tried. It gives a dramatic false-eyelashes effect. It stays on, doesn’t flake or smudge, and doesn’t leave my lashes feeling crunchy and stiff. I was so happy to be wearing this again.

Since I could swatch, I also finally bought a Rouge G de Guerlain Lip Colour with the super fancy jewel lipstick compact. I picked the shade “15 Galiane”. Look how crazy fancy the lipstick case is! It even has a mirror that flips open on its own.

Galiane is a new shade just added this year (it’s not available on the Canadian Sephora site, but it is through the Nordstrom site). It’s a nudey-pinky-beige. The finish is slightly sheer, moisturizing, and a little bit glossy. It actually reminds me of MAC’s Lustre finish, which is my favourite, so the Rouge G de Guerlain formula is right up my alley. It has a very mild “lipstick” smell, but no taste. It was definitely a splurge, but I really do love it.

I paid $30 USD for the mascara, which is about $32 CAD. It’s $34 CAD through Sephora. The lipstick was $51 USD or about $54 CAD. They are $53 CAD through Sephora. So the cost was roughly the same as if I’d bought them in Canada.

I have lots more Vegas shopping to blog about, so stay tuned for more posts over the next few days! I’ll leave you with a pic of me on the gondola ride at the Venetian.
