Ipsy May Glam Bag Review

May Ipsy Glam Bag: Balanced Guru No Frizz Oil, Pacifica Mineral Eyeshadow Duo, Hey Honey Take It Off Exfoliating Honey Peel Off Mask, Pur-lisse Pur-moist Hydra Balance moisturizer, Hang Ten Classic Sport SPF 50 sunscreen

May Ipsy Glam Bag: Balanced Guru No Frizz Oil, Pacifica Mineral Eyeshadow Duo, Hey Honey Take It Off Exfoliating Honey Peel Off Mask, Pur-lisse Pur-moist Hydra Balance moisturizer, Hang Ten Classic Sport SPF 50 sunscreen

The May Glam Bag’s “Fresh Picks” theme was all about natural beauty. I nicknamed mine the “hippy glam bag” because all my products seemed to be of the all-natural, sustainable, ethical, organic, cruelty-free variety. Even the cosmetic bag was unbleached cotton with a green leaf design. My bag also contained more skincare products then any of my previous bags. Only one item out of the five was a makeup item. I received:

  • Balanced Guru No Frizz Oil (travel size): $14.00 CAD
  • Pacifica Mineral Eyeshadow Duo in “Moonbeam” and “Unicorn” (unable to find a price)
  • Hey Honey Take It Off Exfoliating Honey Peel Off Mask (10ml sample size): $38.00 CAD for full 50ml size
  • Pur-lisse Pur-moist Hydra Balance moisturizer (15ml sample size): $60.00 CAD for full 50ml size
  • Hang Ten Classic Sport SPF 50 natural sunscreen (sample size): $14.00 CAD for full size

Retail prices are in CAD and don’t include taxes or applicable shipping.

The total retail value of the May bag if I were to purchase the full-sized products (not including taxes or shipping, etc.) would be: $126.00 CAD. That is without the Pacifica Mineral Eyeshadow Duo which had no price available.

The Balanced Guru No Frizz Oil is silicone-free and uses essential oils like Sesame, Grapeseed, Jojoba, and Tamanu and certified organic ingredients. Its cruelty-free and has recyclable packaging. I have super frizzy hair and generally like hair oils. I found the scent of this one a bit off-putting – a very sinus-clearing eucalyptus. I could not find where this brand might be sold in Canada. We can’t order online, but their website says you can call or email to place an international order, but beware they ship using UPS.

The Pacifica eyeshadow duo is not on their website, so I suspect it was an item specially created for Ipsy. The brand’s products are gluten-free, 100% vegan, cruelty-free, and don’t contain “FD&C color, phthalates, parabens, sulfates, propylene glycol, benzene, mineral oil, petroleum, peanut oil, triclosan, and other ingredients you do not want on your skin” and they are really environmentally and ethically conscious.

Their mineral eyeshadow duo, infused with coconut water, was literally a hit and a miss. The darker, purpley-taupey shade was quite nice and wearable, with a very smooth texture and satin finish. The other half of the duo, a glittery cream shade, was awful! That shade was everything I dislike in an eyeshadow: scratchy, uneven texture; chunky; patchy to apply; and over-the-top sparkly. Pacifica is available through well.ca and may be at some Target stores in Canada (not mine).

I love getting facial masks in my Ipsy bag. The Hey Honey brand uses honey as the main ingredient in all their products, so I am excited to try out the Exfoliating Honey Peel Off Mask. The Hey Honey site ships to Canada using USPS for very reasonable shipping ($8.99 USD) and with USPS there aren’t additional import or customs fees.

Pur-lisse is quite a high-end brand. One of the great things about getting samples in my Ipsy bag is that I can try out expensive products to see how my skin reacts before dropping a lot of money on the full sized product and then discovering it irritates my sensitive skin. The Pur-moist Hydra Balance moisturizer does contain natural fragrance oils so we will see how it goes.

I was excited to get a sunscreen in my Ipsy bag. Being a very pale girl, I practically never leave the house in summer without at least an SPF 30 on (and prefer an SPF 50 or even 75). The Hang Ten Classic Sport contains some organic ingredients, is Oxybenzone, Paraben, and Retinyl Palmitate free, and has a “a signature beach themed all-natural non-synthetic scent”. It smells delicious! Again, I am glad I get to test this out first to see how my skin reacts. Although I couldn’t find where to purchase this brand in Canada.

Thanks for stopping by ❤
