Cargo Cosmetics Blush in Tonga, and Essential Palette in Cool Neutral

I was exited that my local Lawtons Drugs began carrying Cargo Cosmetics. I had never seen it in “real life” before. I knew I had to try one of their blushes. Although “Catalina” is apparently one of their most popular/best-selling shades, seeing it in person I was hesitant. It was a really bright pink! I decide to go with the “Tonga” blush instead, which to me seemed much better suited to fair skin. Cargo describes it as “pink terracotta”.

Tonga is a completely matte “earthy” pink – a brownish-pink with a hint of mauve. Here it is compared to two shades from Nars: “Madly” (also a soft, brown-pink) and “Orgasm” (a shimmery peachy-pink). Tonga is similar to Madly and very different from Orgasm, to give you some points of reference.

I love it. It looks totally natural on fair skin. I love the packaging too, and it’s awesome that you get a ton of product: 8.9 g. I go through a lot of blush 🙂 A MAC blush is 6 g (for $25 CND) and a Nars blush is 4.5 g (for $33 CND). So although the Cargo blush is $26 CND, it’s actually inexpensive considering how much product you get. Cargo is about $2.89/g, MAC  $4.17/g and Nars $7.33/g.

I had really wanted to get an Eye Shadow Single in “Yukon”, but they were already sold out of that shade. The Essential Palette in Cool Neutral caught my eye though. I have a hard time finding cool-toned eyeshadows, especially in neutral/brown shades and especially in a palette.

The “browbone” shade is an exact dupe for MAC’s “Brule” one of my all time favourite shadows. It doesn’t show up in the photo because it’s basically an exact match for my skintone. It is a pale, matte cream/beige shade that’s perfect for blending out other shades and for a highlight.

The “lid” colour was a little disappointing because it just doesn’t show up as well as it does in the pan. It’s very light on the skin, almost as light as the “browbone” shade.

The “crease” colour is beautiful. Mostly matte with just a hint of sheen, it is a perfect cool taupe shade. The “outer corner” shade is deep, cool brown. I didn’t use the shades in the way the palette suggests, with the exception of the browbone shade.

I don’t think these shades are very dupe-able. As I mentioned, it’s tough to find cool-toned neutrals. I also love that these are mostly matte and none are super shimmery. It’s such a wearable palette. The quality of the shadows are excellent; very pigmented (with the exception of the “lid” shade) and very soft, smooth, and blendable. There also wasn’t any fall-out when I was applying them (a big pet peeve of mine).

The palette is a bit pricey at $39 CND, but I think, totally worth it. And again, like the blush, you do get a ton of product. Each shade is 3.7 g. A MAC eye shadow is 1.5 g for $18 CND. So four MAC shadows would be $72. You get way more product for a lot less with the Cargo palette.

I am looking forward to heading back to try out some more Cargo products. If you have any recommendations, please leave me a comment!
