Ipsy January Glam Bag Review

January Ipsy Glam Bag: Healthy Sexy Hair Tri-wheat Leave-in Conditioner; Elizabeth Mott Smooth Shadow Creamy Eye Pencil; (MALIN+GOETZ) Mojito Lip Balm; Apothederm Bright Skin Serum.

January Ipsy Bag: Healthy Sexy Hair Tri-wheat Leave-in Conditioner; Elizabeth Mott Smooth Shadow Creamy Eye Pencil; (MALIN+GOETZ) Mojito Lip Balm; Apothederm Bright Skin Serum.

This is my fifth Glam Bag. This month’s bag contained:

  • Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Tri-wheat Leave-in Conditioner (50ml sample size): $14.95 for the 250 ml size
  • Elizabeth Mott Smooth Shadow Creamy Eye Pencil in “Pearl” (0.7g sample size): $16.43 for regular size
  • A full sized (MALIN+GOETZ) Mojito Lip Balm: $13.15
  • Apothederm Skin Bright Serum (4ml sample size): $73.99 for regular 30ml size
  • Willa Naturals On the Go Lavender Face Towelettes travel size 10 count [not pictured]: $11.00 for

Retail prices are in CND and don’t include taxes or applicable shipping.

This month’s bag had more hair/skincare products than makeup, with only one actual makeup product. I’ve never tried Healthy Sexy Hair although its easy to find in Canada in most drugstores. Love leave-in conditioners and use them daily, so I am excited to test this one out. It’s a great size for traveling. I’m going on two trips in the next two weeks, and this will be in my bag.

I received an Elizabeth Mott It’s So Big Volumizing Mascara in the September Glam Bag and really didn’t like it, so I didn’t have high hopes for the eye pencil. The mascara just didn’t do anything at all for my lashes and the weird, hour-glass shaped brush made it tricky to apply. I’m likewise not a big fan of the Smooth Shadow Creamy Eye Pencil. Described as the “ultimate gel pencil” that contains “just enough shimmer”, I found the Pearl shade too sheer and sparkly. Not sure what I would use it for. Maybe a base under eyeshadow? Elizabeth Mott doesn’t seem to be available in Canada. Their website ships to Canada, but uses UPS and extra customs duties and taxes apply – see my Makeup Shopping Guide for Canadians for why this is not a good thing.

Love, love, love the (MALIN+GOETZ) Mojito Lip Balm! I am super picky about lip balm and was nervous that it might be overly scented or flavoured, but it’s not. I love the thick, rich texture – it’s like a clear gel – and it’s very hydrating. (MALIN+GOETZ) was founded by two dudes, and one founder suffers from fragrance allergies, so the entire line is geared toward sensitive skin – hooray! (MALIN+GOETZ) doesn’t seem to be sold in Canada, which is one of the reasons I love getting Glam bags: getting to try things I would never normally have a chance to. (MALIN+GOETZ) does ship to Canada. Shipping is $25 but the company they use for international shipping, International Checkout, states extra duties and taxes apply. I’d be afraid of the kind of extra charges I faced when I ordered my Besame 😦

The Apothederm Skin Bright Serum is a high-end item that “refines, brightens and hydrates for a more even complexion” with some pretty fancy ingredients. It’s paraben and phthalate free and doesn’t contain pore-clogging or formaldehyde releasing ingredients, and the serum is fragrance free. Really excited about this one!

Not pictured is the Willa Naturals On the Go Lavender Face Towelettes. I gave these to a friend because there’s no way I could use scented towelettes on my sensitive skin.

The total retail value of the January bag if I were to purchase these products (not including taxes or shipping, etc.) was: $129.52 CND. This bag had the best value of any so far, mostly due to the Apothederm Skin Bright Serum.
